Thanks for the comments, everyone. I'm sort of in agreement that the sleeves are a tad too long (maybe a cm?), but quite happy with the rest of the fit. I'm loathe to have it shortened as that's resulted in horror stories from me before, so are there any options re. goat? I'm hoping the sleeves...
Hi all,
I've traded in one of my older jackets for an Aero Sunburst in dark russet goatskin. Its a stock "model" jacket that was apparently in their showroom for years and was sold on discount. I've had Aero's FQHH before, but my preference now is towards goatskin as its much more comfortable...
Hi all,
I purchased this jacket extremely cheap from a garage sale. The seller says he does not have any information regarding the jacket, as he only used it once for a photo shoot and then was stored for a long time (note the horizontal crease, which I suspect came from folding, which I don't...
I tried the HWT on the collar area, it certainly lightened up some, but there was still some bleeding. I think the dye is coming internally from the leather itself and not just the topcoat.
I just had an idea. A "nuclear option" if you will. Perhaps it would be possible to replace all the...
I have a beautiful FQHH Highwayman in cordovan, which is one of my favorite jackets. It was a custom order mid-2017. I've worn it most of the time, and I've finally gotten it almost to the "soft and buttery" stage.
The one issue is regarding cordovan bleed, which if anything, has actually...
I stick my FQHH Highwayman on a wide wooden hanger in my car. I find that where I am (Indonesia), the extra heat goes a long way towards breaking in a jacket evenly, especially in long parks in a hot parking lot. When I wear it, its almost as soft and flexible as my mid-weight goat.
At home, I...
I've compared samples between the CXL steerhide and horsehide. Basically crumpling them like clay in my hands for hours. I simply cannot crumple steer as much as horse. IMHO, steer is significantly thicker and has less "give", while horsehide will turn out softer over time.
Interesting. The leather seems able to be shaped very well in response to water, so I could conceivably soak just the upper arms and have them shrink down a bit. It could affect the overall sleeve length though.
Good eye! These are indeed Iron Heart bootcuts, but these are the black overdyed versions. You can see they're already starting to fade a bit into blue over the left pocket where my wallet goes. And yes, they are pretty low.
