Four words to describe the 1920's-1930's black american experience..

Soul. Long before the “soul music” of the 60s and 70s there was a distinctly African-American concept of “soul”—a secular yet at the same time deeply spiritual (here and now rather than in the afterlife promised by religion) way of feeling and expressing one’s individuality and aliveness, rooted...

    Thrift stores in NYC?

    Thanks a lot.

    Thrift stores in NYC?

It’s been a very long time since I left the City; I keep hearing that it has changed a lot, for better and/or worse. The hotel where I’m staying is only a block from where I used to live in Hell’s Kitchen, but of course they don’t use that name in their advertising. I hope that there still are...

    Thrift stores in NYC?

I’m leaving tomorrow for NYC, where I’m going to spend the whole week, mostly in Manhattan, with maybe one day in Brooklyn. I’d appreciate any recommendations of cool vintage/thrift/junk stores there. Thanks.

    sterkowski caps

No plastic bits; only cloth, leather, thread, and old-fashioned craftsmanship. That last word is so hipsterishly over-used these days (they’re busy crafting Big Macs at your local Mickey D’s all day) that it’s on the verge of becoming meaningless; yet it fits Sterkowski’s made-right products.

New Freewheelers Brakeman in Tanaka Brown (Not Mine . . . Yet)

But how are you going to perform your tasks as a railroad brakeman without it?

    sterkowski caps

I'm very happy with all three of my Sterkowski caps and plan to buy more from them in the future. I highly recommend the company. It is a sad state of affairs, though, that it takes an outfit in Warsaw, Poland, to make an American classic, and make it right; there is no one in U.S. that comes...

    Vintaged Schott Perfecto

No hard feelings at all, brother Jejupe. I expect a picture of me to be among the illustrations in "Man: The Opinionated Ape", if such book is ever published. Peace.

    Vintaged Schott Perfecto

I was not looking to start a debate, but to simply express my opinion. I did not expect anybody to accept it as "a given truth", just as I did not expect that it would inspire resentment and sarcasm. Live and learn and re-learn.

    Vintaged Schott Perfecto

That was some fancy ha-ha footwork you did to dance around my statement and avoid debating its point, but if that was given to you by your sarcastic "god", then keep on hoofing around this: some men like their ladies blessed with all the silicone miracles of modern, to use the word you so...

    I'm bad, I know, I can't help it.

The last single-word sentence in the description of that ho-hum Bentley jacket is Beluga. At this price, does it come with a free lifetime supply of caviar?

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

My new Sterkowski cap. I fear/hope that sooner or later I'll have all of them. Sent from my LG-SP320 using Tapatalk

Consider it said. The principle that applies to the legal tender applies to leather, and to denim as well: counterfeit, no matter how skillful the artifice, is no good.

Comparing: Thedi shawl collar and Bill Kelso Aeronaut Cuoio

"...They measure and fit the same, so it's a very hard decision as to which to keep. Maybe both? But then how would I decide which to wear?..." "Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool..." Sent from my LG-SP320 using Tapatalk

Yep. The key word when it comes to artificially aged leather is "artificial"--false, bogus, dishonest; and that's how it always looks. Sent from my LG-SP320 using Tapatalk

    A Remedy for Wrinkled Leather?

Nope. Know your machinery--that's an industrial pizza dough roller, thin crust application.

    A Remedy for Wrinkled Leather?

Every once in a while I come across a great jacket at a very good price, but with wrinkles in the leather. The one pictured here may be an extreme example, but it aroused my curiosity as to whether there is some remedy or treatment for the problem. Is there one?

    I'm bad, I know, I can't help it.

There is only one solution to this: clone yourself, and let the replicant Guppies wear your jackets daily. Less stress, more patina.

Where did you find the pictures of that last jacket?
