    The Black Hat Brigade

I just bought this black Stetson - I don't have it yet. Thanks to a FL member this one is dated to approx. 1930-1935. I am kind of excited about it.

    Excellent ! Thanks.

Please help me estimate age of this Stetson

Black fedora - I looked on some of the dating Stetson posts here on the FL but cannot determine if this is a 1920s or 1930s hat? Thank you for you time! John

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I wanted a black fedora - don't ask me why because I don't know - it's nothing to do with religion unless you count hat wearing (and buying) as a religious experience. Anyway, it looks like I won this early Stetson - 1920s maybe? Even if it's 1930s it would be my oldest hat. More than I was...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

BobC - what a beautiful hat! I was thinking about bidding until it went up to $330, then it went over $400!! Too rich for my blood but I'm glad a Lounger won the prize. John

    Show us your Guns!

Just found out over at the cowboy action forum that "HER" stands for Hal Roach Studios so this is a movie/tv prop gun. How cool is that? John

    Show us your suits

Thanks Matt, I found it on Epay. It's rare for me to find any vintage suit that fits my 44 reg frame for less than $350-400. I was lucky this time. We'll let my tailor decide how lucky when she tells me the bill to alter this thing.

    Show us your Guns!

This is a little before the era our little group is interested in but it's pretty cool none-the-less. I was strolling through the gun show today and saw this wild west beauty for less than half what I normally see them going for - needs a main spring but that's it! All there, all the markings...

Well the tag has the 1939 copyright so the suit was made between 1939 and 1949. No other tags on it. It needs some minor adjustments including, as Jingo Mastapone noticed, the buttons are off on the jacket, plus taking in the waist on and lengthening the pants but I think with some...

Thanks, but I don't understand this comment? Do the buttons look weird on my suit?

New acquisition - union tag is sewn in so date cannot be read but based on what I've read here and elsewhere about these tags it was made 1949 or before. I don't have enough experience to guess if it's later 40s, early 40s or what? Would anyone like to take a guess? Thanks for looking.

    Show us your Guns!

I agree wholeheartedly! Some are even down right beautiful like a prewar commercial - top 1911 in this photo - with a Norinco in the middle (darn good copy of a Colt) and a Clackamas-made Kimber (my modern 1911).

My newest addition: Original First model Schofield - very rare - only 3035 made as part of the first shipment to the US Army in 1875 - most went to 9th and 10th Cavalry - Buffalo soldiers- and the 4th Cavalry. Among other duties, the former units were a big part of the Apache Wars in...

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

The bracelet came with the watch, along with a nice NATO strap, and I've seen others with the same Rolex-marked jubilee so I just assumed it was an option for the Explorer I? And I love the classic simplicity and accuity of the watch too.

I do, and maybe it's just mine, but it's in again for repairs. This is the second time this year.

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

Tomasso, I'm an archaeologist by trade and I needed a tough watch. However, being a Ph.D. and representing my company the way that I do in the field and in the office meant I also needed more than your average watch (at least that was my argument to the wife). The Speedy is great but...

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

Tomasso, You may be right - that is a beautiful watch. However, I wore this exact Explorer to a uber-fancy party in Arlington VA a week ago and didn't feel a bit underdressed. My problem is that most of my watches are vintage "working watches" like this Rolex, an Omega Speedmaster, or...

One of the more iconic Rolex watches - a circa 1965 Explorer with the rare gilt-dial on a Rolex Jubilee bracelet. This watch has an understated elegance allowing it to be worn while hiking or hunting and also for the opera or black tie affairs. Plus it is on the smaller side and isn't as gaudy...

    Show off the sports coats.

I couldn't resist this one even afer telling myself that I don't need another vintage sportcoat. It was that great windowpane pattern in the fabric. Photos of the overall outfit will follow once I receive the darn thing and have it dry cleaned but here is the teaser. It's supposed to date to...
