It's surprisingly difficult to be 100% on but I'd say stains. They just seem to be on the surface almost like the hat was brushed up against something wet. A gentle sanding or sponging might work- Wesslyn

I'm selling a San Antonio , an OR clone, I scooped up an antique shop, despite the fact it's about 3 sizes too big! The size tag is gone and the production tag is so worn away, I believe it said 7 3/8, however it feels like a 7 1/2, maybe even 5/8. The hats definitely seen better days, it's got...- Wesslyn

Speak for yourself! While I agree it's definitely a beater, I think beaters are the best kind of hat most of the time. If I had a 1940s Whippet in mint condition I'd be afraid to put it on my head! Not to mention, beaters are more in my budget. I'm sure I'm not alone...- Wesslyn

The Rivoli got the vertical sign sometime in the 60s, I believe. Don't quote me on that, because that's a long time before I existed. The theatre in both the Rivoli and the Bijou went out of business, so I guess the town couldn't handle two theatres, haha... Now the Bijou is a bar that owns...- Wesslyn

Vintage neon signs
Here's a shot of my hometown's main street circa 52. Here's the only sign left. An old theatre that's owned and used occasionally by the bar next door.
