It's just heart-breaking to hear about the children. Those guys who go into the rubble trying to get survivors out in time... well, hero is a small word for such incredible people.

Personally, I would wear the hat as is for awhile and wait before adding any shellac or other stiffening agent to the felt. You may find that steaming the hat into the crease and shape you like may just work out perfectly.
