Thanks for the info! Do you have photos of yours in the same pattern? I'm interested to hear you say this is the longer version as it sits very short on the body, much shorter than any of my long half belts.
Here are a few more photos of the Sportclad. Only on a hangar im afraid as theres something of a mini heatwave in London today!
The zipper is a Talon, which while mostly silver now looks as if it was originally gold in colour.
From my meagre understanding it's probably late 1930s -...
Had a very lucky find in here in the UK: a late 1930s - mid 1940s? Sportclad which just arrived today:
These are the sellers photos I will take more over the weekend. It's a beut' and fits me nicely. It does have a couple of issues: one of the side pulls is missing and some sensitive darning...
Thanks for your help, I was hoping to do the repair by hand so as to use the original stitch holes. I'd love to hear your procedure for this? I've repaired a few seams before using a saddle stitch, would this be your advise here?
I've just got to find the appropriate replacement part in the...
I was also wondering, does anyone know if there is a record of this model in any of the old sales catalogs? it would be great to find out the specific year(s) it was available.
again thank you all for all the help!
Thank you for all your help! I thought that it was a civilian Rough Wear, but I didn't realise they'd made the identical pattern for other labels. It's really interesting to see some other examples. Mine is in decent shape overall. the lining is detached around the collar and it's missing the...
Picked up this Rough In steerhide jacket from a local car boot sale in London today. II's certainly seen some action but is in pretty solid condition overall. I've read that Rough In jackets are fairly scarce so I thought I'd post some images. Sorry they're not the best quality and for the...
Thanks for the replies! Yeah its a hell of a jacket especially with the history!
I have to admit if I had that history with a garment in my family I couldn't ever imagine parting with it.
I love the two tone on the its pockets as well, Incidentally it's made by Perfect Leather Garment Co in...
It's Canadian and made from Horsehide with a nickel plated Lighthing zip.
When I got the jacket it had been in the same family from new. It had belonged to the sellers grandfather who had bought it new in Canada at the begging of WW2 when they we being trained as a pilot.
Although civilian...
Thanks Edward!
Yeah there's definitely something of the N1 about it. It also reminds me a bit of a 30's sports jacket.
I contacted Jamie from Blighty Militaria who said that the 22G contract number identifies it as being R.A.F but that he hadn't come across this design before.
I recently got this jacket and I was wandering if someone could shed any light on it as I don't recognise the design.
It's definitely British as the label is stamped with the broad arrow due to the colour I'm guessing R.A.F or civil defence?
The cut is a little reminiscent of battledress...
I recently got this jacket cheap and was wandering if someone could shed any light on it as its a little different from those i've come across in the past.
I'm not sure what service this is so apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place!
It's definitely British as the label is stamped with...
