(Vintage?) Tips for dealing with white T-shirts + perspiration?

I’m not being too prescriptive here (it’s written tongue in cheek). If you want to truly embrace the 50’s don’t worry about sweat! I’m pretty sure that the ‘clean look’ of tight fitting white T shirts was mainly just a look. Personal hygiene in the 50’s was not as it is today. Houses with...

Old sayings, which make no sense?

A friend one told me the origin of the saying, “It’s cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey” referred to the brass rings on stands (called brass monkeys?) used onboard ships to store cannon balls becoming so cold they shrank reducing their diameter and the cannon balls rolled off...

Old sayings, which make no sense?

When I used to ask my favourite Aunty what she had in her bag (usually sweets for me) she’d say “Wimwams for lame ducks”.

Old sayings, which make no sense?

Not really nonsense more like money sense, ‘Many a mickle makes a muckle’ is Scots for, ‘Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves’. However if you search for mickle and muckle they are apparently from the same root meaning large amount?

How do I buy a vintage leather riding jacket and not get ripped off?

You’re correct of course when it comes to rarities but for the more common brands it’ll work.

How do I buy a vintage leather riding jacket and not get ripped off?

What was said above with a small addition. Find the one (or those), you love in the shop that fits. Note the maker and the size (or pit to pit if no size label), and search for it privately eg Craig’s list eBay, Etsy etc. The chances are you’ll get it much cheaper.

Is it ok to negotiate and/or offer less than the listed price? What qualifies as a low ball offer?

Years ago I used to collect vintage fountain pens via a newspaper ad and would travel locally to check out pens for sale by people who replied to my ad. I carried a buyers guide with me and would pay a fair price based on the guide using the guide as evidence particularly when sellers asked...

    Covid Vaccine

Only some are RNA vaccines others are old tech like the flu vaccines we’ve been using for years, based on attenuated adenovirus with relevant bits of COVID-19 stuck on. The answer to the main part of your question is that you’re quoting the average survivability rate for the total population...

Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

Take a close look at the stitching holding the zip in place. If there are spare holes with no thread it’ll be a replacement. If there are no spare holes it’s either a professional job where they’ve carefully re- stitched into the same holes or an original zipper tape. Of course either way the...

Cooper Sportswear ‘Hollywood’ jacket 44” fqhh

I don’t know anything anything about Cooper. I’ve seen a civi G1 style with pockets rather than patch pockets with the same label in a friends shop. I’m assuming it’s 50’s given the zipper puller shape and stopbox style. The sleeves are a wider fit at the biceps area than most of my other jackets.
