Duplicate(ish) question.
I just picked up an older jacket (supposedly from the 1960s with Conmatic cuff zips, but who knows...) with this short main pull. I am used to the longer, spelled out "Coats Clark" version and was wondering if this short "CC" one was older, newer or just a smaller...
I just got one a few weeks ago.
I have to say it's a lot stiffer than I thought.
The left side has so many pocket that the overlapping layers makes it feel like I'm wearing a cardboard box!
Is this normal? Are others finding them this stiff? It's basically new, so maybe it needs to be broken...
So the Vanson E showed up.
Seemed very heavy and boxy at first.
I have a Langlitz Cascade from the 1990s that is supposedly made with their heaviest weight leather at the time. That jacket seems heavy and thick but not stiff. This jacket feels very stiff. I was told that it is almost new though...
All that talk of a "Highwayman".
Is that style/ pattern specific? Or is that just a name that different companies use for different jackets and it really does not define a style or model - like saying "Biker Jacket"?
Supposedly a Vanson Model E or Highwayman(?) is landing here today.
My gloves are the Lee Parks DeerSports. Made of deer I presume.
The link is either here, above, or in the other older "favorite or best MC" gloves thread that I noticed a few days ago. I replied there too.
These get wet. As far as I can tell they come untreated so water will soak in.
I used...
The overall question seems to be about value.
What is worth spending more money on (or at least above the minimum), besides jackets, obviously!
I have learned that it is actually cheaper for me to spend more on quality once or twice
than to spend more often on quantity. I have an old pair of...
You're funny.
I am not comparing different makers.
I am commenting on an open market.
No one has to buy the jacket even if we all want to.
I never said the jacket was not worth $1100. It's not to me, mostly because I don't think the numbers add up to a fit.
IF it did fit then it would be a lot...
Yes.
He is trying to sell the jacket for a "new price".
As I said, you can buy a lot of very nice, new jackets for $1100.+ dollars.
I also said, I would consider buying the jacket if it fit me. The same thing you said.
I never said the price for the jacket was unreasonable. I simply said that...
By "shell" I mean essentially one layer, or no lining. What you see inside is the back of the outside.
If it has more nylon, another inner layer inside, and maybe some padding or insulation in-between the two panels, then it's not a shell, in my view.
It still might be relatively thin, but...
Is this like a shell - no lining or internal insulation type of thing?
If it's a normal jacket with insulation, I'll give it a try for $175. I live in Los Angeles, btw.
Hurry as it's supposed to rain tomorrow and maybe over the weekend. I'd like to try out the magical anti-rain magic if I get...
Very nice. Love the vintage zippers.
Numbers might not quite be there for me I'm afraid.
I have a Langlitz here that is really at my limits size wise. I can wear it and I'll keep it and ride with it, at least for a while, but any smaller and it would not fit.
These LostWorld numbers are all...
Yup.
Now even though I'm talking of simply having another made by Vanson, it won't be a vintage jacket from 20 or more years ago. At least not until 20 or more years from now.
I just bought a pair of Langlitz goatskin pants that sort of fit (about 85%). They were made with a rivet and Langlitz...
By the way, I also noticed (recently learned) that a Schott 125 (I think) is almost the same design.
Very similar pockets and placement pattern, plus some lacing on the sides and a belt.
I'd like to hear any feeling good, bad, or ugly regarding these two jackets that seem so similar from some...
So Model E = Highwayman?
Then why have two names?
I know you had. I am not allowed to use the correct words on this website to describe how I feel about you selling it.
However I then thought, someone had it made, maybe they would make another...
So now I've got one coming (I hope it fits) to...
Looks like I have a Vanson Model E coming.
What is the difference between a Model E and a Highwayman? On Vanson's website I only found Highwayman.
I wonder how much it would cost to have a custom one made with grey leather done.
We'll see how this fits first when it shows up.
I've done something like this to resize a jacket and a pair of goatskin pants I just got.
The jacket was a little too small.
I did not put it in the washing machine.
I put it in the bathtub and filled the tub with hot water until the jacket was covered.
The jacket took a few days to slowly dry...
I like my Lee Parks DeerSports gauntlets (http://leeparksdesign.com).
He also makes a short version. I actually started with a short pair just to see how I liked them. When a small hole developed in one, I replaced them with the gauntlets and these have lasted me years.
Lee Parks are not stiff...
