So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I saw a flipflop in a snowbank of a major highway this winter. I'm pretty sure that person's life is more terrifying than mine- to lose a single flip flop on an interstate in a 5 foot snow bank...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

This always puzzled me- I know money talk's but those agencies must not do anything to check on the celeb. I had a colleague who started an international adoption at age 39. The age limit for most adoption agencies apparently is age 45. After all the hoops (home visits, character visits, etc.)...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

As women we really run the gamut of very personal questions (and comments) regarding childbearing. If you know someone really well you will know whether they would like to have children, have more children, etc. If you absolutely cannot live without knowing, you can bring up your child status...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

How do you lose one shoe??? Other than kids and moving them around... one shoe? Maybe too much drinking? Does this often happen to other people? I'm just going to pat myself on the back here for having it a bit together for having never lost one shoe, yet. I might not have it together in lots...

    Time capsules

Arts and Crafts is my personal favorite (deco deco everywhere), but the housing stock of Craftsman homes is small (but better located). There's more stock of 1960s brick tract housing, but it is rather small for modern living needs of a (hopefully) still growing family. The 1960s tract housing...

    Time capsules

This is very sad... atomic era is very hot right now (judging upon the renovators supply magazines). Our next house we are looking at will likely be either an arts and crafts style or a atomic era home (that is what most of the housing stock available is; which one we will get depends upon what...

    Things that make you smile

I like church bells. Where we live there is a church street (on which our UU church is) along with several other churches. Our church no longer has it's bell, but there's nothing so wonderful as hearing them all ringing from the various churches at the end of service.

Ladies, what are you doing this evening?

You ever think of when you're moving chucking the last 20 or so boxes... the ones you haven't unpacked in the first week? I always think about it, but I end up opening them up and finding two groups of things: oh my gosh I need that and why did I pack this????

How to keep the poof away

Well, the good news is that hair does grow, so if you hate it... that hate will only be temporary. I don't have poofy hair, but I know some women use coconut oil (sparingly) to deal with frizz. I'd take a look into the products in your local store in the hair aisle for dealing with frizz...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I've found that in couples where two members are different ages or any really large differences, there is often something that makes them average in the middle. For instance, if a marriage works between someone who is 25 and 50 it's typically because the younger is more like 35 and the older is...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

The divorce rate has never really been 50% for first time marriages. It's closer to 30% for first time marriages. Second marriages have a higher divorce rate, third marriages even higher. Turns out if you don't work on figuring out what happened the first or third time, history can repeat...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

My old school was a WPA centralized rural school (located in a town of 450 people.... now). If kids had cars there was ample space to park, but it likely would have been in a field (they were granted about 10 acres of land when the school was built in 1937, and it previous had been crop land). I...

Ladies, what are your 2017 resolutions?

I will be starting a new job in the fall. I am excited. I want to sew a lot in preparation. I need more "vintage inspired" suits and have three bins of suiting fabric so, there you go. I also want to write a lot in preparation. I want to get rid of my non-vintage wardrobe. Basically all the...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

This may seem trite, but how sad for Debbie Reynolds (as a mother) to outlive her daughter, Carrie Fisher, even if only for a day... undoubtedly one of the saddest days of her life.

At least the house didn't burn down. My parents were never able to date their house. They orginally thought 1820, but found a will and did some genealogy that suggested the couple that built it (likely around their marriage) had much older children (3 more) than originally thought. All the...

The realtor had 1890 on our house. that's how far back our abstract went, but when we looked into the deeds we found the property was bought in 1851. The censuses show a remarkable increase in property value (same acres) by 1855. (Don't quote me on those exact dates.) We later found out the...

    Show us your vintage home!

I think there is a valid question as to if we should try to "recreate" older forms in new(er) houses. While I think it is better that someone who wants to "remuddle" an old house should build new (or buy something too far gone already); I think any newer building should have some clear markings...

She's doing a fine job of it! Do you know what year she was built? Our Victorian (the never ending restoration saga) is an Italianate from about 1852-1853.

Because you asked: The proportions of the windows seem incorrect (short)- or to put it more bluntly, it's a bit Uncanny Valley of Houses for me. In your house, your windows are twice as tall as wide; in the modern house the windows are 1.5 times as tall as wide. It could be the photography...
