Well like I said, the chafing at the seam points attracted my attention since the color contrast was pretty different. If not for that I might never have noticed.
The maker has offered to color it for me, so I assume that they know what to use. They apologized for not noticing and touching it...
Well, I don’t love it. But I can live with it. It’s otherwise a nice jacket.
It’s interesting that it sounds like it happens less on goat than horse. I had always wanted to try horsehide though. So, learned something new I reckon.
Thanks Guys,
Yeah, I have to admit that it IS a bit like your new Ferrari coming with scratches from the factory.
The fact that people have had jackets with them that have held together does make it less of a concern.
I kind of figure they will blend in with the rest of the jacket’s wear...
Hey guys,
I am looking for a more experienced eye on something.
I recently received a custom jacket that I noticed had some surface scraping at the shoulder and back seams (2 piece back split horizontally) where the back joins the sleeves in a T.
On closer inspection I noted that, in addition...
Yeah, the Marines were like that too. Luckily, we got all our flight gear from the Navy!
I never quite understood why making Army pilots proud of being Army AND pilots was such a bad thing.
I knew a few Army pilots who did some crazy brave things....and their outerwear didn’t enter into it.
That’s some amazing history. Those Spad pilots had some brass nuts.
My old squadron, VMA-211, was a Skyraider squadron before they traded them in for A-4s.

Oh, thanks for the offer. I don’t need any angles in particular, but any shots, or fit pics in general just broaden the knowledge base about this maker.
Actually, El Marro’s and Thor’s fit pics paint the actual jacket in a more flattering light than do the manikin shots from the LW website...
My Eastman is one of my best fitting and best looking jackets.
Having said that, the leather on my ELC G-1 is singularly different than any other goat that I’ve seen from Cockpit to Goodwear. It’s thinner, but stiffer, so that it crinkles more than folds. Pretty early on the jacket developed...
I like it!
I know some of the SWOs(and certainly many grunts I knew) had a hate on for the G-1 since they had nothing comparable.
In the Marines, you could wear your meh tan uniform jacket or your wool sweater with civilian gear, but pilots were precluded from wearing their G-1s out in town...
Excellent points made by everyone.
From my own perspective, the draw of GW from many years past is that he chose to emulate many of the esoteric details that others didn’t, although I think there’s some truth that he has encouraged other makers to up their game since then.
For instance, when I...
Welcome! That jacket looks great on you.
Love your Freedom Shepard too!
(J/K, I didn’t know that about Alsatians either. [emoji16])

Interesting. I’d like to hear (perhaps in another thread) the thinking behind this.
Even though the jacket wasn’t made continuously throughout its service history, it’s still designated the “A-2” AFAIK. So, while some may consider it to be the ugly sister of the WWII A-2, it’s still an A-2 as...
The Marine Shop is a tailor in Quantico (literally in Quantico town) that sells uniforms primarily to officers, as OCS is based there.
They are generally of superior quality to what the MCX sells and they have various amounts of “snivel gear” for sale to young Officer Candidates and 2nd LTs...
My impression from trying on Cockpit G-1s over the years is that they are good, slim fitting jackets.
Your mileage may vary, but I would not normally size down in one.
