    Phoenix Hat Company

Some things are just too cool not to have. I took a leap of faith and bought this National Hatters Supply Company (Chicago/New York) hat measuring device, more as a conversation piece for the hat shop than anything else. I'm happy to say, however, that it's spot on accurate. Bonus!

    Tabletop Hatters of The Lounge

I do applaud you for thinking outside the hat box Hat and Rehat. You just never know when you might hit upon an idea that proves to be an effective substitute for proven methods. In the earlier days of my hat making journey I tried many shortcuts and cost saving workarounds. Some were, to some...

    Tabletop Hatters of The Lounge

I agree with Mustang Mike on this one. Buy a good quality steam iron. Also very handy for those little touch ups when you don't want to fire up the Jiffy.

    Tabletop Hatters of The Lounge

Question Bertie. Are you using a pre-shaped wood block or an open crown wood block. You can iron straw hats the same way you would felt by using a damp pressing cloth between the iron and the straw. If you're forming your hats on a pre-formed block then you can just use steam and manipulate the...

I'm looking for the lighter silverbelly color Brent. If I can find a source, though, I plan to stock up on multiple colors. I don't often need this type ribbon, but it'd be nice not to have to spend the time trying to source it when the need arises. With all the western hats in production I...

Hello all. Does anyone out there have any stock of this 2 cord ribbon lying around that you don't have a use for and would be willing to part with? I'm more than a little surprised that I can't find it anywhere to purchase. If you know of a supplier, that would be even better and the information...

I haven't ordered their puggarees, but I buy my braided Milan and hemp straw from them. They have proven to be a dependable supplier.

    Phoenix Hat Company

I'm a bit of a novice Tuk, but I think they will make fine hats. I'm looking forward to working with them.

All I've ever used for sweatband installation is upholstery thread. Hell, if it'll hold a couch together it should hold a sweatband in. That clear monofilament line that most of the big name hat makers are using to attach ribbons makes sense, I suppose, on the production line where time is money...

    Phoenix Hat Company

Sorry Scooterz, but no website or even a social media page. I still work a full time job plus a few other side businesses and don't have time to handle the hat orders that advertising might (wishful thinking) generate. I plan to roll out the PHC website upon my semi-retirement in March of 2020...

    Hats With Musical Instruments

That's why I've gravitated away from building those stick neck jobs. It's not as easy to put a proper neck on a cigar box instrument, but infinitely more playable.

    Hats With Musical Instruments

Yep. By the time you add the wooden cone ring and internal bracing the damn thing weighs a ton. Definitely not suitable for backpacking.

    Hats With Musical Instruments

Thanks Bama. That room holds the workbench for instruments and another bench for leatherwork, plus a couple industrial leather sewing machines. Lot going on in there. I didn't take any wood off this box as all the sound comes from the resonator and not from the soundboard. Without a resonator I...

    Hats With Musical Instruments

In the music room/guitar shop playing the 6 string resonator guitar that I made from a vintage mahogany silverware box. The Stetson St. Regis homburg might be a too little highbrow for this lowborn instrument.

VS Custom Hats - Watch the MAGIC - Art makes a hat FULL VIDEO!!

Watching you at work is a truly inspiring experience Art. Thanks so much for sharing your techniques with us. I found your method for mitigating the presence of that pesky shellac core particularly interesting. Denatured alcohol spray, huh, who'd a thought. I've just been shucking the really...

    "Deadwood" hats

As much as I'd like it to be so Jack, I haven't been commissioned to make any hats for the movie. The hat that I'm currently working on was ordered by a guy that loved Ellsworth's hat from the series and wanted me to recreate it for him.
