Both my ELMC (Californian and Windward) had the Talon zipper slider explode on my hand as I tried to zip them up, doing it carefully too! and they’re new-ish jackets!
Somehow my Aeros with the same #5 Talon zipper are still going good, and they’re older and with heavier/thicker hide. Only issue...
Man that sucks, I’ve been having zipper issues in three different jackets as well recently.
Vintage style zippers are as beautiful as they’re a pain when they start getting tired.
I’ve done it plenty of times in shoes, boots, leather jackets, etc. with zero issues. It’s just a tiny flame for a split second.
Quality leather goods are supposed to be resilient, otherwise what’s the point?
I may be in the minority here, but I think they both fit you well.
The board racer is perfect and great looking jacket, and the Vanson fits you just like that style normally does.
I’d be happy with both.
I’m sorry if this is off topic, but I’m finding it really hard to imagine what kind of weather is optimal to wear alpaca-lined shorts?

Congratulations on a great jacket purchase. The fit is excellent and the model you chose suits you well.
Now that you got a home run on first try, go on and enjoy your jacket, close this browser, delete this site from your browsing history and never think of us again.
Failing to do so, you...
Alright, I went through it.
The patience and willingness to help of some members here is commendable and mind blowing at the same time, and a credit to this nice corner of the interwebs.
That said, that 19-page long thread was entirely 18 pages too long. I feel uneasy, borderline queasy.
