You also need to be measuring the edge of the sweatband at the widest point--any lower into the crown and the circumference becomes smaller. This requires a dedicated device , soft and/or narrow tape measure or a piece of string that is not elastic. -

Thanks Justin and all! I think someone spilled or dripped on it and it was stored in a stack of hats. Eventually the moths hid under the shade and dined too. The brim points straight up and does not curl over. -
