9-year lifespan. Beyond that you put the heifer in the meat grinder for the dinner table. Joking aside, maybe a coat of wax may be good to slow the aging process? That and taking care not to drag it in the dirt and avoid wearing it while digging ditches.
Sorry for the delayed response—I just woke up from my nap. It’s just getting cooler in the California evenings so I took this out for fun and games at dinner time. It’s aging steadily but moving forward it will age faster as it’ll be out in the sun more often. Loving this one to death.
Having owned and still own many jackets/vests with teacore, my preference is to continue to enjoy the beautiful fade and color patina of such finish; however, I wouldn’t mind one day soon to try the aniline leather.
Thanks a bunch, Marc. Very clear explanation. Does the pigment Dyed Shinki age similarly to aniline, in that the grains and creases are similar features?
This sentiment, riddled throughout the threads about Field Leathers, is why I bought this jacket even though I’m very unsure about the fit dimensions for me. Just primarily want to check out the work… I may just get on the Field waiting list and hope I’ll have one made before my lifespan ends.
I’m excited to say that I just bought this cool Field Shinki from JCSD. I’m eager to see if it fits me, but if it doesn’t, then expect me to put it up for sale here at a lower price. (Many of you can vouch that I almost always take huge losses if a jacket doesn’t fit and the buyer always gets a...
Dang, JCSD… if I hadn’t lost more weight, this would have been already sold. Maybe I need to get back to doing more pushups and barbell presses. :( If this fits anyone, snatch it—it’s a Flathead deerskin, for crying out loud!
I agree with all you wrote. Since I never saw this vest as a waist coat, I wasn’t particularly worried about its length but at the same time I was hoping it was shorter. However, there are numerous qualities I like about this vest, more than one thing I dislike. That tilts the balance toward...
the leather itself is almost alive, in that when you pick it up, it responds by growing richer grain patterns. It is a cross between my Iron Heart IHJ-35 cafe jacket and the Fine Creek jacket. I love it because it makes for comfortable wearing rather than awkward wrestling.
