Ah, fair enough. That isn't me. I'm an athletic size 46. Been looking for used Aeros for a year and saw literally nothing. Guys in the 38-42 range can change jackets on the classifieds like Underoos.
Is there? Where else can you get a totally custom jacket for 300-350? There's a lot of value here.
Having said that I didn't consider a 5* until they upgraded their leather (I mean, I hope it's an upgrade) but for 350 or so it's worth a gamble.
And hopefully it's a sign of more to come...
There seems to be a decent amount of Brooks Brothers CRs in that range on eBay.
I just managed to secure one in size 48, actually. Easier to get for me than an Aero. The only thing is, the jackets are thin. But vintage, so...
I didn't know that. He sent this pic to me saying this is how the darker CXL he made looks...I assumed it was the actual leather. If it's really like this I'd be thrilled. The lighter brown in an actual jacket he made looks more like natural CXL, not for me.
I'd guess if he had a jacket yet...
Hey Ton, I didn't read your entire saga...I gather you're trying to change the colour of the jacket.
I've successfully done this with boots and a jacket myself. Step A is acetone all over to strip the original colour. Then dye. Black shoe cream can even work to get rid of the coppery sheen...
Me too. Until now none of their leather options appealed to me. I think this leather looks great, it's just that it will be thick and heavy. Shawn said a 3kg jacket.
Hi sir. I am in the process of ordering a size 46 bootlegger styled jacket - is that your size? I wondered if you could give me some tips for the order. What did you spec the jacket out at? How did you ensure the best fit? How does it measure out? (shoulders, pit to pit, upper arm width...
That's great to know. I bought and sold two previous Aeros due to sizing. 44 shoulders, too tight at 19.5. size 48 too much at 21.
I got a vintage Brooks CR last week, size 48. Shoulders are 20, feels a wee bit tight. So I asked Shawn for 20.5.
I made similar size asks for the other...
Thing is I have no idea what the cuffs should be.
I based measurements on a number of other jackets I have. I've struggled with sizing and have never had anything just right. I'm wondering also if thick leather throws off what the pits or shoulders should be, for instance.
I have been watching this thread for months...seeing Shawn's new leathers encouraged me to pull the trigger on a buy.
As an FYI, the lighter coloured brown CXL Mr. Proper posted is not representative of how it looks. Shawn sent me a fit pic of a jacket with that leather and it looks more like...
Really? Very interesting. Black?
I waited for months for his horsehide to come in. I was disappointed to learn it is on the thin side, soft, and only in russett and brown. I wanted a tough, thick, grainy black.
Hi everyone. I am really liking what I see of 5* offerings, but I confess I'm not crazy about the leather selection they have.
Then I saw a seller in the classifieds with a jacket made by Shawn with leather he supplied - I'll post my questions here if anyone has some insight:
1.) How much...
