Nice hat - that's a good find! Is there a paper tag inside/behind the sweatband? The model and color name should both be on that tag. I'm curious what that color is called, as well as the model. I'm a big fan of the Resistol Stagecoach line.
I'm going to offer some suggestions, but of course I can't see the boots in person, don't know the oil, can't control how you carry out the work - all the standard disclaimer stuff. These methods have worked for me to draw oil from leather and wood, but every situation is different, so proceed...
That did turn out well! I like the way he salvaged the labeling from the sweatband. Other means I have seen sometimes look like an attempt to fake the new sweatband as an original. This way, you've still got the heritage of the hat included, in a tasteful way that doesn't imply fraud.
I've seen that in wool garments; it pretty much means "recycled". The original wool fabric is disassembled or shredded down to fiber again and respun and rewoven. The disadvantage is that most of the fibers are now much shorter than they originally were, with less loft.
I assume it may be...
What caused the stain - it looks like the boot soaked up some kind of oil, possibly? I'm not sure I see the "worn through" area. If it is oil it may be possible to dry or draw the oil out, if you know what it is. I don't think staining is going to cover that, if it is oil, as it likely won't...
I've not tried that with cowboy boots, but have lowered a heel on a pair of White's Packers and didn't like the result at all. The heel strike and stride were way off. On the other hand, I added a quarter inch to a pair of engineers which made them much more comfortable to stand in. They had a...
That scene always reminded me of the scene where Lewis Gates first encounters the Cheyenne dog soldiers in one of my favorite "esacpe" movies, The Last of the Dogmen:
It would be nice to think that places this wild could still exist, somehow.
To keep my reply on-thread, here's Lewis's hat ;) :
Those photos remind me an awful lot of the army ammunition plant I once worked at! It was indeed a very complex place, initially built as we were drug into WW II. The engineering and workmanship put into this "rush job" really are amazing even in this day and time. Sort of like touring a...
I guess it's too late if you've accepted a partial refund, but if the hat was not as advertised (i.e., not a size 7), you could have filed a claim with Ebay if the seller wouldn't accept a return. You obviously did not get the hat that was advertised. These sellers that assign random sizes to...
LIDAR is amazing technology and has been "finding" a lot of lost cities that can't been seen on aerial or satellite photos.
It's absolutely amazing to me to read about the buildings and infrastructure that existed thousands of years ago, often using massive blocks of stone that have been...
I enjoy seeing your photos. My wife and I did a drive down the west coast a few years ago but just barely scratched the surface in San Francisco. Thanks for sharing these.
I love the stories in songs, vivid imagery, and cleverly turned phrases. I've never cared as much for instrumentals or classical music, although there are pieces that I enjoy, but for the most part give me a hillbilly ballad that tells a good story any day!
