Nice, Nico. Makes me realise though that within a week I'll be back in the southern winter; just heard that the first snow fell on the mountains surrounding Wellington (while I sit here enjoying breakfast at a hotel in Bizkaia, Basque Country).
However, lots of interesting beret news to relate...
This is likely to be my last post for a while; off to the Beret Heartlands in 3 days time!
And a busy schedule too; meetings with the various beret manufacturers (discussing ideas, new models, colours, materials), meetings at the University of Bilbao, seeing French and Spanish writers and...
Good news for those in the northern hemisphere with summer approaching as fast as winter does here... The bérets en coton are Laulhère’s latest edition in cotton berets; berets that are revolutionary in comfort thanks to a method of knitting that has never been used before, creating a firm but...
Well, the first beret that comes to mind is the Caesar Augustus approved Basco Roma; light wool, comfortable to wear and in a small 25cm diameter. I have several customers who won't wear any other beret.
However, there is another beret in an even smaller diameter that, like the Roma has been...
On SPECIAL this week, the boinas Tolosa Tupida from Argentina!
For the first time ever, a SPECIAL of boinas Tolosa Tupida. Importing berets from Argentina is a time consuming and frustrating business; the time between placing an order and arrival in Wellington (NZ) typically takes some 6...
Not a good idea. As I explained to Philipe in an email, the Savon de Marseille is an ingredient used in the manufacturing process (fulling) of the berets made by Boneteria Auloronesa; e.g. it is part of the process and not a conditioning agent to use afterwards. Or, to be even clearer, most of...
Remember all the discussion on 'Navy' berets a few weeks back?
At that time, Boneteria Auloronesa was working on a special order for me: Foulards in a slightly lighter shade of blue; not "UN" or "sky", but more resembling the colour of denim, was the brief.
And now these berets are in, I can...
Rugby is to berets what pipes are to beards; never far apart. Rugby is of course the major sport played (and celebrated) in Gascony and many, if not most, spectators don a beret during the games.
But of course, Gascony is still part of France (whether they like it or not) and berets are often...
It will be, as it is an Aotearoa - not an Auloronesa. Differences may be small to an outsider, as the outer appearance is identical and of course, both are made by the same manufacturer.
The difference is a softer finish of the Aotearoa's felted merino wool and of course the woven label.
On SPECIAL this week, the super luxurious Aotearoa Grand Foulards!
The Grand Foulard Alpin, or "Tarte", is the ultimate beret, though not for the faint hearted. The "Tarte" was developed for the French army Régiment d'Infanterie de Montagne (or Chasseurs Alpins / Alpine Hunters), in 1888...
Ah, that's what I think every time when I hear Mr Trump announcing one of his plans, whether it's 1 April or not!
But, it was real nice of him to contact me this morning, twittering this "decree #131" really is a good, no GREAT idea!
Personally, I think it will go down the same way as his ban...
Not an April Fools Day Joke
Usually, on the 1st of April, you would read an interesting story here pulling your boinero's leg, like on Cuba levying copyright fees on Ché Guevara merchandise; about US sheriffs having to change from Stetson hats to berets; Tarte Chasseurs for James Bond and the...
Ha, the pressure is building up... Video (or photo's) must be possible; give me some time and I'll work on it.
Manufacturing quality "Wellington Berets".., nah - beret making is for professionals; artisans who typically learned the trade from their father (like he did from his father).
Of...
A very foggy day in Wellington and with my wife taking the car for the day, a good walk through the mist over the hills to the post office in Khandallah to post beret parcels (yes, including yours RJR!).
I dare say: no post office in New Zealand has dealt with so many berets as this small...
I always found posting and formatting photo's on TFL a real pain, but what I do now is copy the picture, paste it in a Word.doc (adjust the size and/or angle there) and copy again to paste it on the TFL page. Sounds complicated, but found this to be the easiest way.
Good luck!
Nice brush, but like Philipe, I prefer the sticky roller.
The cheapest way to clean a beret from dirt, dust, hairs, etc is by simply applying sticky tape over the surface of the beret (see picture below). Much easier, is the NZ made "Raven Roller", a roller with 50 adhesive sheets that easily...
Prominent boinero, Holocaust survivor and sculptor Alfred Tibor died one week ago on 18 March.
Tibor was born Alfred Goldstein in Konyar, Hungary in 1920. Denied formal training because of his Jewish faith, he taught himself gymnastics in high school. "The more they were pushing me down and...
Very good news from Boinas Elósegui - much sooner than I anticipated, the new Exposición Grandes and Txapelduns in Caqui have arrived; a custom made colour that is only available at South Pacific Berets.
Much has been posted here the last couple of weeks on differences, better and worse, of the...
