Incidentally, am I correct to say wool berets are made of boiled wool, not felt? Both Elosegui and Laulhere have a knitted stage that is then felted (I suspect the correct term would be 'fulled') -- they do not seem to make felt (that is a not knitted cloth) berets. I find it fascinating. -

My Akubra is *exactly the same* as it was before, after all the shape and feel are given by the felt, not by the wire. If you do not want to sell the hat and you cannot return it, removing the wire and gentle stretching on a hat jack and your head *might* be enough. Keep in mind the leather... -

My feelings are the same as the ones that people have for wikipedia pages -- I had never heard of either person ;) For me, at the price of a 5 minutes cutters/pliers job I get to enjoy for the life of the hat the assets of Akubra hats without any of the liabilities. :D -

How much should I expect an Akubra Traveller to shrink? I am a 58 and I like a slightly looser rather than tighter fit. I know Akubra are made with some shrinkage in mind, so they start a bit loose and end exactly on the mark. How does that work with the pliofelt and cotton sweatband? -

Where can I get a decent quality cotton or linen beret for the summer *in Europe* ? I have a simple cotton one, but I find it a bit tight, and I would not mind going up un quality. I mention Europe because I am in Europe and it is just much easier for me to avoid customs hassles if I buy online. -

I did go out and try the foam thing -- 37C (99F) air temp, substantially higher in the sun. Bottom line, unless you need the foam to float the hat, removing it made it much cooler and nicer to wear. -
