I don't know about other languages, but in English corn cobs are regularly referred to as "an ear of corn". Apparently, in this context, the word "ear" comes from the ancient word "ahs" which meant "husk of corn".
I've minimized the number of times this happens to me by not answering any incoming calls when I don't recognize the number or name. If it's important, they'll leave a message. If not, I'm better off.
And now, when some schmoe says the straw hat you want isn't in stock and it'll take him six weeks to get one, you can reply that you've seen the video and it only takes 4 to 5 minutes to make one, so they had better get busy. ;)

I agree with everything you've written except for the Enterprise-D. It has always been the "Las Vegas Disco" version of a Federation vessel, and it's one of the ugliest space vessels ever designed.
