You could get the zip tape replaced and get the repairer to swap the zipper over. I had an original Cable Raincoat A-2 in a far worse condition than yours but with a similar zipper problem. Aero swapped out the original zip tape put back the original zipper. It doesn't solve the whole problem -...
By the looks of it, the zip fitted was shorter than the jacket, so it was stretched to the length, then it shrank over time, causing the 'pull' on the right hand panel. Not much you can do, but it's proof of how-make-do-and-mend the construction of these things was.
It looks as though somebody with a bit of a sense of humour has put this together. It's like making a fake Gibson Les Paul and deliberately stamping 'made by Fender' on the back.
It's a lovely drive/train journey from Edinburgh to Gala, with lots to see in the area - the stunning Melrose Abbey is just 10 minutes up the road for starters.
The practice of 'vanity sizing' is becoming pernicious. The number of times I've tried on a pair of trousers tagged with a 30" waist only to find they've got an extra inch-to-inch-and-half to spare, it's ridiculous and makes buying clothes on line a roulette wheel spin. With jackets, I would...
I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with that. They have previously stocked a darker brown with oatmeal sheepskin, and I remember them making up an ANJ4 in the B-3 redskin sheepskin, looked quite nice I recall. It's just whether you want something that is period correct. Tbh, you...
I would be concerned that it might be a bit heavy for the jacket. I’ve handled the blanket and it’s substantial and v warm. I tried it on in the factory and start to sweat within minutes! I guess if you’re going for a full-on winter jacket, it’s ideal but it might be a narrow window of use.
I owned a Real McCoy nylon, it's lining was wool and it felt remarkably robust, far heavier than the Alphas I owned. Didn't notice a variation in warmth but it felt as if it could take a bit more punishment.
I tend to the opinion that black is a bit of a 'blah' leather and rather limiting - brown and cordovan are much more flexible and tend to age more interestingly. I do like olive, but I would agree that an olive with more brown tones is a much more wearable colour.
I got a couple weird folds in my board racer from sitting on a wet bench for a couple of hours. Just wear it and wear it, the jacket will regain its shape or at least mould to accommodate your body again.
My recommendation would be to wipe the whole jacket down with water, stick it in a sunny window, and repeat a few times. The wash will give you an even, all-over watermark, and the sun treatment will deepen the colour to a honeyish tone. After that, I'd just wear and try to forget that the...
