These Lucchese Classics are interesting, make an offer if red's your color, too small for me... No financial interest, etc....

I still have those old Frye's, minus the stirrups. Close to 50 years old, now, I wore them everywhere. My friend's dad was a cobbler, he must have re-heeled them 8-9 times and soles at least 4. Now they're like a pair of large socks....I keep them around for sentiment.

My first pair of Fryes c. 1971 had a squared toe and stirrups, I could live with these big ..."snip" toes. The newer "duckbills", no thanks

I just can't wrap my head around those duckbill toes either...are they a new development, say last 20 years? I never see vintage boots with them.

Better like square toes, right now they offer 33 men's style and only one is "western" (pointed) toe.

I've been watching the excellent new Ken Burns documentary on PBS, "Country Music". The first part of Episode 2, "Hard Times, deals with the rise of the singing cowboy, there are some great shots with the singers and bands in full regalia, including some truly vintage, boot work, inlays and all...

Been quiet here of late, so....just saw this on Ebay, late Lama's, what, no heel counter? There actually looks to be an internal counter but still they look like the would not fit well, heel slipping and such...just looks incomplete.

    Let's see your mechanical watches

From the OP in post #3.... "I think the other thread is for vintage watches. There are still a few modern hand-winders out there, and I thought it might be interesting to see them." I thought it was for handwinds...

Nice Steinhart but isn't that an automatic? I thought this thread is for handwinders....

Mine are newer (2012) Lucchese so yes, probably a glass shank. I don't want to change the height, just a bit more rake. I'll probably wear them unitl they need new heel caps and then ask to have them ground a little.

Will it be any harder to walk in than a pair originally made with more rake?

I've bid on a few pair like that in the last few months, one was two-tone, definitely a 1950-60's style. On a different note, have any of you ever had heels re-profiled? I just got these Lucchese croc and goat skins, like everything about them except the heel, was thinking of having them...

I'm a hunter and I've never heard of anyone tanning bear skin for leather, though I don't see why it couldn't be done. Most of the time the hair is left on for rugs or robes. I have had deer, moose and javelina hides tanned, all too soft for boots though moose makes nice house mocs or...
