I like many am a Filson Fan (the original, not the new stuff). I've worn the strap vest and the Old style 32 for 10+ years, my cousin has a 32 that must be 20+ years old.
I love the strap vest for early season or good weather-- light and I can move.
I wear and love the 32 in cold weather...
I agree that is is both southern and rural. I have been in cities in the south, and find them less polite/slow/genteel than the rural counter parts. I've found northern cities to be worse -- except Milwaukee ?! I for one like the laconic pace of rural life. If we don't get it done today...
My father wore a suit to work everyday for 40 years, in that time he never owned a pair of dress shoes. Just dress western cowboy boots -- collegues and others often wondered how many pairs he owned (30+). They were always kept shined with the heels and the soles dressed. He worked in OK, AR...
I've only got 30 or so pair. I've found the most comfortable to be the ones that fit best.
I've got T.O. Stanley's, Nocona, Dan Post, Luchesse, Justin, Rios Mercedes, Blutcher (Custom Made in OK- My Favorites), Loveless (OKC, Customs), Redwings, RM Williams (Aussie). To name a few.

I know the the proper venue for the Julep is at the races, in your linen suit. But as many have mentioned that tweeds are coming and there is a coolness coming in the air.....
Where the tweeds, skip the ice, mint, sugar, and silver cup. Just a nice pour of Bourbon in a cut crystal glass...

I love the tape (measuring) in the case. Complete with the tab ending. Just like I used (and still have) when I sold men's clothes at an old men's clothier. Sadly it closed last January. After 100yrs in business. We had lots of odd bits in that building and in the store room.
What a great...
I love the chinstrap chambray- especially the pocket flap shape! I've got an old picture of a favorite Uncle with a similar shirt. Then I see the dreaded most dreaded words to a person with an ample midsection...."Fitted."
Another dream shattered. (Wal-Mart did have a decent no flap...
Percolater? The worst way? Surely this is worse:
I've made cowboy coffee with a boiler, just dumpa in coffe and boil away to desired darkeness/bitterness. Drop an egg in to settle the grounds, and drink away. GOD its awful! But I'll still make a pot every once in a blue moon for...
In your Black and Tan- The Guiness is on the top, not the bottom. But it is yummy. While the Black and Tan is not commonly served in Ireland, beers have often been mixed, not layered, in British Isles traditions. This process went out of favor about the turn of the century (19th/20th). When...
Just loaded my only Dunhill (yes they smoke great), tamped down my "Dark English" tobacco with my Dunhill Tamper (which is too nice, and my first extravagenct tool/toy). Thank the Good Lord for layaway! And good deals from my tobacco shop owner.
The weather has broken somewhat here and it...
I have my grandfather's print tie. Painted silk brown with a cream oval featuring a buckaroo on a bronc. I love the look of the tie, but it is quite short by today's standard. I wore it at my father's memorial as an homage- I just wish I had my grandpa's tie clasp.
I'd like to wear it...
Pocket knives
I carry a 3 blade Medium Stockman- Just like Grandpa's. I'll inform the young men that want to date my daughter to the spey blades intended purpose. "See ya at nine, Have a nice time."
Emory Boards, leather bound books.

Ok, I've giggled, read in gaped mouth awe, and felt really bad for some of you.
Here's mine:
I live in a nice-ish area of town with mid size homes, nice size lots, walking distance to a very nice park. Mostly mid class professors, and other professionals or trades people. My west...
HighLander-
I found some (6 years ago) at an old style grocery on the poorer side of town and bought probably 10 boxes! I'm down to the last two. IF I find more I'll let you know.
We had a cast Iron Match Box in the kitchen that would fit a box of kitchen matches. I loved that thing...
For your food thoughts, I would look at:
Helen Corbitts Cookbook, or The Best from Helen Corbitts Kitchens.
I have the former- full of great 50s-esque drawing and thoughts. Lots of great food! And advice for entertaining. From the Master herself and written in the timeframe you are...
We acquired a new boss about 2 years ago and it has made my job very stressful and rather unpleasant for all here save the 5 "golden" sycophants. I could rant on for hours, but I digress.
I allowed my dress to suffer because of my distaste for our new mgt. Then after reading some of The...
Duck and Sausage Gumbo (If I've got the duck otherwise I substitute)
Red Beans and Rice
Chili - Not a purest though- I use some beans too.
Brown Beans
Basically if it involves a large pot- I'll cook it. I've always liked feeding armies of people. And I like the leftovers! Next time I...
