    What Are You Reading

Currently reading Charlie Wilson's War. I loved the movie and the book goes into greater detail, of course.

The Akubra Bogart might be my next purchase. Is Hats Direct the best retailer for them?

Hats In The Car/A Newbie Question

I'm no expert on older cars but I bet many of them were made with more head room. I don't have as much of a problem knocking off my hat when I get in the car because I'm shorter.

I missed your first post so welcome to the forum. I'm new around here myself. I'm an officer in the Army Reserve but my dream has always been to be a naval officer. It just hasn't worked out for me so far. Best of luck and welcome.

    Historic Movie Palaces

The first picture is of the Saenger Theater in downtown Mobile, Alabama. It was built in 1927 and was recently renovated. It is mainly used for concerts now. The second two pictures are of The Alabama in downtown Birmingham, AL. It was built by Paramount Studios in 1927 to showcase their...

Help in choosing a hat in Los Angeles

Welcome to the forum. I'm pretty new around here myself. I lived in Los Angeles for 4 year between high school and college and I once bought a fedora from a store in downtown LA. For the last few weeks I've been trying to remember the name and location of the store, but I can't. I do recall...

Panama Hat articles from the web

That was my first trip to Guayaquil so my initial instinct was to judge it against the "typical" American city. My wife kept commenting about how much it had changed and for the better. Her father, who still lives there, talked about how much improvement there had been. We were there for...

Panama Hat articles from the web

I have found this whole thread interesting since my wife is from Ecuador - born and raised - and migrated to the US at the age of 17. We visited her family last year in Guayaquil.

I vote for the bound edge as well. That's what my Akubra squatter has and I really like the look of it.

    Wifebeaters?

I wear them during the summer when I'm wearing light weight short sleeve shirts made to be left untucked. When wearing a suit I cannot wear one during the summer here. The heat and humidity is just too intense and I need more coverage from an undershirt to protect my dress shirts. Even during...

    Pocketwatches

Beautiful watch. Also, I believe the watchmaker gave me an incorrect age on my watch. I looked up the serial number on a website which indicates a date of 1931 - more in line with what I was initially thinking. Again, that Elgin is beautiful.

    Dr. Jones in Vanity Fair....

I can't wait for this to come out. I have a big crush on Cate Blanchett too.:D

I bet that Elgin is beautiful also. I think I'll use the silver chain now (all I have) but you're right - a gold chain for a gold watch is the best way to go. I'm on the lookout for the right one now.

That's a beautiful watch and special since it belonged to your Dad. Did he have the engraving done on the back or did you do that?
