WideBrimm: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll ask my optometrist about the covers when I go to pick up the spectacles. (I suppose, in a pinch, any heat shrink tubing might work too). Thanks also for the cleaning suggestion ... I might try that for my old/current frames too.
I see that the Optometrist Attic carries them too.
I bought old frames off eBay. I'm having glass lenses put in and the optometrist said he would fit them when the lenses are done.
Listed on eBay for $120 or best offer. Three Lincoln Bennett hats - a bowler, a top hat, and another hat. Seller said that the measurement is 8" by 6", but I'm not sure if that's for every hat or what. They seem to small to fit me, but it looks like it could be a good deal...
Thanks, Richard. Yes, they're gold-filled. So they shouldn't be a problem then? That's good to know.
(I suppose the replacement cables at Optometrist Attic are just gold-coloured and not actually gold-filled?)
Thanks Joao. My understanding is that anything beyond a 1 size stretch will start to significantly alter the hat look (by eating the brim or crown). No?
If a seller suggests that the length/width measurement of a hat is 8" x 6", would that be likely to be a hat with something like a 22" circumference? (I need something closer to 23", and some I'm thinking this hat must be too small, even if I wanted to stretch it a bit.) Or is it possible it's...

When I was...
Resizing hats?
There's a felt hat I'm comtemplating buying (looks like it's from the 1920s), but its inner circumference is 22" and I'd probably need it to be close to 23". Would that be an unreasonable expectation in terms of resizing?
Many thanks; I think I'm close on being dead on 59 (and my wife a bit smaller), so it sounds like Large is the best choice.
They look like really great hats; I currently only have my 20 year wool bowler, which isn't ideal for summer.
I'd like to order a couple of Barmah squashies for me and my wife, but I'm little concerned about sizing as I keep running into reviews suggesting that Barmahs might run small. (Here are the "official" size charts:
Small 55 cm 21.6 inch
Medium 57 cm 22.4 inch
Large 59 cm 23 inch...
