    This weekend, apparently.

    I say chaps

Almost definitely a fake. For one thing, real regimental ties wouldn't have a massive logo like that in the middle! Just stripes in the regimental colours.

    Suit Vests + Overcoats questions

With a suit, it's best to buy one that comes as a three piece rather than getting a separate waistcoat later on, as they won't look 'right' later on, owing to the fabric not matching. A way around for that would be to purchase one that is deliberately different, perhaps in dark red. For the...

    Mending Mens Suits - 1943

Very interesting stuff there, and a far cry from today when the trousers would just be chucked out rather than repaired. On a related note, how much did men's fashions change in the US during ww2? Were double breasted suits and waistcoats frowned upon due to the excess material used?

Chaplin Mustache in Modern Day Society?

Who would have thought a short Austrian Corporal would have such a long-lasting impact on men's facial hair choices. I do think it would look dashing with a brown shirt and some long boots though.

    Removing underarm stains

Does anybody here have a good method of removing anti-perspirant stains from shirts? I mean the thick, crusty, slightly yellowy stains on the armpits?

    A confused soon-to-be-suit-wearer asks...

Until about 1 month ago, he had a shop in Sheffield. I understand he is now online and will travel around the Yorkshire area to visit clients. www.barneygoodman.com I had two very nice suits made up by him. One a normal, navy blue suit, the other a rather rakish houndstooth suit with peak...

    A confused soon-to-be-suit-wearer asks...

I can highly recommend a tailor in the yorkshire area, who has made 2 very nice suits for me. However, as you are starting out in this new job, I'd suggest getting 2 suits from M&S at this moment in time. Suits from there aren't bad, and they do have some quite nice ones. While the £500...

Great Shoe Shine Stands across the nation

There's a really good one in Burlington Arcade in London, pretty good price too, £3.50 for a top-quality shine. He told me off though as apparently I'd been polishing those shoes incorrectly..

    Basic Wardrobe

I think I know the one you mean. There was also one for a college wardrobe for the chap "who doesn't want to look like he goes to school in the modern age" or something along those lines. Where DID they go?

    Boating Blazers

My girlfriend and I are having the same issue as we want some fora boating trip over the summer. We've been trawling through the net, but the only ones available are dire 1960s style jobs, and bookster has apparently sold out. Anyone know a good website where a striped blazer can be ordered...

    Shoe Care / Shoe Shine

Thanks for all the advice gentlemen. These shoes are very new, I only purchased them last month, and they're not vintage so I don't have to worry as much about the treatments being too harsh. I'll try the saddle soap first. Thanks again!

    Shoe Care / Shoe Shine

Wrong polish for the shoes. Good evening gents, I have a pair of rather beautiful brown shoes, which normally require the use of kiwi Light Tan polish. However, in a fit of stupidity a fortnight ago, I used dark tan polish on them. Although they have largely recovered as it was only a small...

    Vintage Sytle Hard Hat

I'd be a bit wary about choosing an older hard hat over a modern one. I could be completely wrong, but wouldn't a modern hard hat have to meet more stringent safety regulations and be made of possibly better materials than an older one?
