That looks really good, chap! I would, however, think about investing in some jeans with a higher rise, to complement the cut of the jacket – don't forget, fellas wore their pants much higher back when that jacket pattern was popular ... nowt too high, but a mid-rise, relatively narrow leg...
I'd agree with ya, except the Sam Walker 'Highwayman' I own is actually really good leather, a nice heavy steer with a shine and decent stiffness...
I'm presuming two things: that my SW Highwayman is from the 'Aero' era, and that yours was made from the same leather as the SW 'Barnstormer' I...
D'oh, I should have mentioned the weight / oily nature of the wool... yep, they're pretty substantial, the good uns: in the deepest winter here (-13C), I can wear just an undershirt, shirt, cowichan and wax motorcycle jacket, and not feel the cold...
Parkdale, Ossington, Kensington, and Dundas West seem to be the areas of Toronto with the highest concentration of vintage shops – I went around *I think* Kensington around 1993, but can't remember much, other than there were a hella lot of stores... to me, Cowichans are like Hawaiian shirts...
Here's a blog post I wrote about 'em a few years back – that's not a bad price for 'new' Cowichan, Two Types, but the collars look a little skimpy, and I do wonder about the quality of the wool used, at that price point! A friend of mine saw my 'square dancers' Cowichan and decided to start...
Well, blow me down wiv a feather, the Highwayman turned up!
As Seb suggested, by the feel and the grain, it would seem to be Connolly steer, which is relatively weighty but not at much as later jackets, and it responded well to a good wipe over with some Gold Medal hide food... the lining is...
A certain gent from Glasgow was the lucky winner of my first Facebook belt giveaway (inspired by Marineabilly's regular events on his brilliant blog), and he's pretty chuffed with it!
Still awaiting the guitar straps to decorate, but recently had a coupla custom jobs on – the first one...
Thanks folks, nice to know its history! Jake, if they're still charging £80 for a re-lining, that's brilliant! Worf, of course I'll be keeping the label!
'Usual wear and tear' is what the listing said, mainly seemed to be the lining but I did spot the odd small surface scrape and I guess the...
Hey folks, I did use FL's search facility to try and find an answer but didn't turn anything up... tooling around on Ebay a few nights ago, I cursorily had a look through the vintage leather jackets on offer, when I spotted a familiar shape, listed at just £14.99 / $20 – what looked like an Aero...
Our 'belt giveaway' ends in under 90 mins!
Meanwhile, here's a prototype decorated guitar strap I made for a true 'street racer'-themed guitar, with 'traffic light' colour jewels on the front, blue ones on the strap to deter the po-leese, and a red tailight...
Apologies, Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea... I remember a letter from '64 or so, deploring the lack of tie-wearers among 'beat groups' like the Stones, Kinks and Pretty Things – would love to read that again, if you happen to see it! :p
Nice work, Baron! BTW, if you need 'em, the RBKC reference library on the King's Road where I used to work has a massive collection of bound copies of Tailor & Cutter in their 'costume collection' – you can request 'em from the reference desk...
Two Types & Diner Hunter look brill, as ever...
Hey folks, it's the first *BAM-BALAM BELT GIVEAWAY!*
We've got one lovely belt left over from our recent trip to Paris, and you could be its new owner in our first giveaway! Up for grabs an original vintage 1.75" wide brown leather garrison belt, hand-decorated with 'suit of cards' cutouts...
I do have wardrobes (and a tallboy, plus some trunks) but that's the 'vintage' department of Espace Kiliwatch, which is presided over by a genial gent named Jacques. They have some quite nice stuff, but it's really just a glorified Urban Outfitters – although Jacques was dressed very well, in...
Hey Edward & Fly Boy, apparently, the straps are on their way to me, so I'll be able to give you an ETA at Regent Sounds in Denmark Street pretty soon... BTW, I made a delivery of a dozen belts, five wallets and half a dozen wristbands to Born Bad Retro Clothing in Paris over the weekend, during...
Mrs Badger and I have just returned from a most pleasant long weekend in Paris – I DJed at Le Tiki Bar again and delivered my Bam-Balam belts, wallets & wristbands to Born Bad Vintage Clothing... I took my circa 1976, tailor-made English country suit; three different RL loop collar, flap pocket...
Ah, you're thinking of Deluxe Jersey, Edward... I've handled their sweaters at the awesome Duke Shop in Paris and they're terrific!
BTW, I plumped for what was sized as the '44' fitting Norton zip-neck sweater, and found it slightly large (I'd say it actually measures 46"-47" under the arms)...
My guess is that, in the UK, certain folks stationed overseas during WW2 kept their 'Bombay bloomers' or other regulation 'short trousers' after being demobbed and occasionally wore them while hiking, etc, but never 'around the house' and certainly not anywhere 'out'...
I'll wager that the...
Spent most of last week on 'belt business', making display hangers for new stockists and putting another selection together for my friends at Cock-a-Doodle Vintage to take to the Twinwood festival and the Hemsby Rock & Roll Weekender:
I also started on the next batch, sorting /...
