Yeah, I'm only at 11 Akubras right now but still slowly growing the collection. I do have a Penman on order right now that I'm waiting on. So far I have yet to try one of the open crown Akubras but have been considering the Fed.
I wouldn't ever say you're making a mistake. If you're like me then you're going to end up with a nice collection in the end anyway so buy for the nearest season that you'll be wearing it for. Love my 'brown' hats in winter but mostly switch to lighter colors for summer. I do have an Angler...
One more to consider may be the Lightning Ridge if you're between the Banjo and the Lawson. The LR has the brim of the Lawson but otherwise more of the look of the BP and it's available in the heritage fawn which I love...also sand which I like for warmer weather. I've been so close to...
I vote the Banjo. I wear mine frequently. Love it but also ended up with a Coober Pedy which has America brim as the Cattleman. Really like the wider brim on a sunny day.
Happy birthday, ingineer. I always thought the Lightning ridge was the larger brim version of the banjo but I don't have a Lawson to compare. Are all three that similar?
The bluegrass green works well with a lot of my stuff but the sand is definitely more versatile. I do love the larger brim on the CP though. The BP is definitely less cowboy-ish and I have gotten some "Indy" references when wearing it. People just don't really know what they're looking at...
I'm a 7 1/2 or size 60 Akubra. Haven't had any shrinkage issues with my hats so have both heritage and imperial grade in size 60. Completely happy with them. Oldest would be two 27 year old Snowy Rivers. My BP is only about a year old.
Depends on what you like? I tend to like the drover style hats the best so Coober Pedy ranks high on my list. Love my Banjo Paterson though. Currently have a Territory somewhere in the mail as well for the huge brim.
A lot of good advice in this thread. Sorry if someone mentioned this already but I'd also add.... Visit this forum frequently and in particular look at the thread on 'what hat are you wearing today' to see the styles of some of the other members. Warning: hats can become addictive and you...
It certainly can be frustrating when you're waiting on a new hat. Most of the time mine have gone right through but I did have one sit there for a couple of weeks before it moved on.
If you search the forum, you'll see different answers on that question. As ADHD mentioned, if you leave them in a hot car that can have a negative effect on them. I have a 20 year old snowy river that I purchased for my head size and it still fits comfortably. None of my other Akubras are...
Seems I can't get enough hats and I'm getting them with bigger and bigger brims. Like you I also just ordered a Territory in khaki. Now for the three month wait.
