Hi Barb,
The US distributor for Akubra is David Morgan, whose shop is located in an industrial park a few miles from here. I haven't visited there for at least a decade, but remember David himself as being a very nice guy. He'd probably be in his 80s now, so the shop's likely run nowadays by...
Hi,
Totally agree with you, Mr. Lucky, about the color. You might not have found a better one for you if you'd have gone through all of Photoshop's zillion colors.
It's sure a great hat for steppin' out. Bet you have a lot of fun with it!
Cheers,
Mark
Hi,
Some of my ties are thin ones, mostly Rooster and Wembley. Great patterns! They do require a different sort of tie clip than wider ties do. Or maybe a stickpin.
(Actually, returning to the first post for this thread, I think the best accessory for a thin tie might well be Angelique...
Hi,
End caps on the stick pins for my ties, for sure.
The hat pins that came with new hats I've bought didn't ring my chimes, so I pulled 'em all off. I'd probably go with the end caps if I ever decide to let any of them stay on. Same reason as you, safety.
Cheers,
Mark
Hiya flylot,
New here myself, but after a little experimentation, it looks like the way to go is to head to your Photobucket album and copy the IMG Code from underneath the picture. Then paste that code into your message.
So, let's see if it works to show your photo.
I think this...
Hi,
That's really, really impressive!
Even if they'd turned out sorta kinda OK, you'd have rescued two more once-good hats. But that they look so good is like getting an extra maraschino cherry on top of your sundae.
Cheers,
Mark
Here's the straight scoop, Colby Jack:
The message mentions the birthday of JerseyJones. JerseyJones, I think, is Ken's nick on Club Obi Wan.
The styling options page doesn't have a lot of hard info on it. So if you want to find out what a Full Cut Down might be, Ken'll doubtless tell...
Howdy,
I'm liking what I can see of your handiwork. Very smooth.
Can't see down the crease in these snaps, but if you've done the whole job as smoothly as what's showing so far, you're better at this than I am. :)
Cheers,
Mark
So true, Havana. You might even say that's exactly why I've modified my approach to hat-etiquette in quite the way I have.
Being of pure-quill hillbilly stock, I come from a feudin' tradition wherein families gunned each other down for years on end on account of real or imagined slights...
Ah, friend, that's the difference between a hat dilettante like me and a real hat person like yourself. When I first started buying honest-to-goodness hats, the first ones I got were a Bailey porkpie and a Beaver Brand homburg. It was drilled into me that I was never to pick them up by their...
Hiya,
I've been thinking of getting a fur felt gambler-style Western hat myself. Been looking at a lot of cowboy hats offered by a lot of makers.
Rick Blaine's idea sounds pretty good to me. They're right there in your own backyard, after all. Probably make good hats, too. Their prices...
Hi,
Welcome, Matt!
Most of my hats are black or nearly so. Maybe you're not is as small a minority here as you think. :)
Dr greg's advice sounds good to me. The most popular alternatives are probably:
1. Try, try again on a dry crown.
2. Steam the crown in the jet from a boiling...
H'lo again,
:offtopic: The Garbage Plate looks like poutine, a Quebeçois fast-food specialty.
Anthony Bourdain, did a Montréal show for the Food Channel some time back. Of course he had to chow down on some poutine between foie gras dinners. He liked it. [huh]
How do I get back on...
Hey folks,
There are three Burlington Coat Factory warehouse outlets in the Seattle area. One is on Highway 99 in Edmonds, one at the Supermall in Auburn, and one at the Lakewood Towne Center south of Tacoma.
Maybe someone's already listed them in this thread, but if I go ahead and read...
Hello all,
D00R, I've got four suggestions for you, followed by a question of my own:
Some of the hatmakers who specialize in hats for re-enactors offer toppers. It's possible that they might share some information with you. (I wouldn't take book on how probable, though!) River Junction...
Howdy,
Agreed, that it's way rude of shop assistants (store clerks, on our side of the world) to grab your nice hat & try it on. Unsanitary as well. :eusa_doh:
That's why I wouldn't lie a hat on a shop counter, *especially* not on its crown.
When most people lie a hat or cap on the...
Hiya,
Great lookin' hat, Barb!
And it came FedEx? I often have trouble getting things sent FedEx. In fact, there's something on order from Miller Hats that's just left the FedEx depot in Utah. Umm, a western gambler-style hat offered at a deep discount, if memory serves. I just hope that...
