    FL brain storm request

I think you nailed it. Typically, men get together because they have an objective. This can be competitive (who is the best at X?) or cooperative (let's build something!). Women are more likely to have getting together be the objective.

    Stretching shoes

What a pleasant surprise! I called up a shop in Hillsboro, which is not too far away. Not only do they offer the service, but they don't charge for it!

That's good to know, as I see D come up much more frequently on ebay than E.

How to be a Golden Era Kid

    Stretching shoes

My first pair of ebay shoes is a bit too narrow. Can they be stretched a bit, or am I better off reselling them? They are 10 D, and I think I need 10 E. However, the size break for shoe trees is 10 D / E, so I was thinking perhaps I could stretch them with the larger trees.

Deluded or not, her opinion about art is worth more than Hitler's. Whatever else he may have been, he was not an artist.

    Victorian repro suits?

I don't own one, but it seems to me that oversize armholes on a Victorian suit would look impossibly incorrect.

What did your grandparents pack for personal protection in the Golden Era?

Not all Americans have ancestors that lived in America, either. My grandparents spent the Golden Era in Nazi Germany, Civil-War, Occupied, and Communist China, and in hiding in Istanbul, Turkey. Needless to say, their personal protection options were rather limited.

    The loss of occasion

It doesn't seem fair to me to compare a person who cannot do a thing to a person who is perfectly capable and simply refuses. And a person who goes to any length despite his or her circumstances to demonstrate respect is to be commended. Conversely, the person who is deliberately...

    esnipe vs ebay bid assistant

To my knowledge, no. It's more of a tool to assist in bidding on multiple similar items simultaneously. From the help page:

Foods that shouldn't be allowed in your house because you will eat it all

What I'm thinking of is more of a sweet cracker. They come in a brick (the sugar makes them stick together) and when you break them apart you're left with a thin piece about half the size of a pink eraser.

    The I'm-too-good-for-this-job Attitude

You said, among other things: "Yes, self-reliance and self-sufficiency are damned fine things. But do we have to put the whole burden on the individual for whatever social and economic conditions, maybe half a continent or world away, may do to them?" If I have somehow misinterpreted what you...

    The I'm-too-good-for-this-job Attitude

The individual may not be responsible for changing conditions, but he is darn well responsible for how he adapts to them. Sadly, many people adapt poorly, or not at all. That doesn't mean anyone is supposed to step in and shield them from the world.
