There is also a book written on that mission by I believe Ted Lawson, who was the pilot in command of the Ruptured Duck on the 1942 Tokyo raid off of the USS Hornet.
We can see how many others will admit to owning a propeller cap. There is now a propeller cap thread at http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/propeller-caps-as-seen-in-cartoons.84863/
Great minds on this forum have stated that they own a propeller cap. The one in the photo is one of mine.
Does anyone else have one? Or a collection thereof?
This is Goober. He's a mixed breed, half Red Heeler, half unknown. Two large dogs killed him a couple of months ago. Goober was 19 years old when he died and he was senile but before that he was the smartest farm dog imaginable. That probably goes without saying because farm dogs do not live...
I'm not at home right now, am at my mother's house, it's the family home on a ranch in Texas, built in 1880 or so. The past is everywhere in this location. There is even a barn with a complete carriage/wagon/harness repair shop in it. Those shop items haven't been used for almost a hundred years.
No idea what the export versions are like because I've bought every Akubra I've ever had in person in shops in Australia but for comfort I'd pick the softer felt rather than the stiffer ones.
Yes, I've seen a black Leisure Time in a shop in Melbourne. If fedoras look good on you and you like black ones, it's a really nice hat.
Personally I cannot wear a fedora. Tried one on once... first thought in my head was "I'm Clyde Barrow, I rob banks." It literally made me look like I'd walk...
Back then there was no Hell's Angels biker gang. The Hell's Angels squadron jacket is as awesome as it gets but I'd probably still vote for Steve McQueen aka Virgil Hilts in "The Great Escape."
Forgot the one I'd really like... and it could have been mine for free. Years ago someone who was a pilot on Air Force One during the Eisenhower administration told my mother he no longer fit his old leather jacket. He knew I was learning how to fly at the time and told her I could have it. It...
I don't have three. I like A-2's the best but the only other one I'd really like is a CWU in leather, with snaps on the pocket flaps instead of velcro, and with no velcro name patch, and maybe some interior pockets. Otherwise same design as the nylon and nomex versions.
Pop's in Turkey does one...
My 8th grade math teacher was in "The Fighting Lady"... if I remember correctly, he said it was filmed on the Yorktown. He was a Navy pilot from roughly 1940 to around 1970, retired with the rank of Rear Admiral, then became a math teacher. I forgot what point it is in the film, but he's clearly...
Inclement conditions... any felt Akubra. My preferred ones are the Coober Pedy and the Territory. The Coober Pedy would probably be more suited to the UK though as the Territory is a serious hot weather hat.
