Exactly. My younger, fashion-obsessed sister, who has always teased me for my vintage obsession, is now asking me for advice about vintage clothing stores. However, she has no desire to actually look she walked out of another time; she wants to incorporate one vintage (or vintage-inspired)...
I first became interested in vintage through classic films, which I watched as a child. Back then, I really didn't pay much attention to era, I just knew I preferred the way things looked in old movies! One of my favorites during that time was Marilyn Monroe, and as a result, I became (and...
The one downside is that the boutique in New York is the only place to purchase in the U.S. (at least as far as I know). I placed my order over the phone, though I do wish they'd offer online shopping. Diane, the store manager, is very helpful and sent me several samples so I could figure out...
Wow, that is so neat about your grandmother working for Mr. John! I actually have a Mr. John hat, but it's not in the greatest condition. It's still adorable though; I'll have to see if I can find it so that I can take a picture. There's some good info here.
77 Sunset Strip is probably my all-time favorite TV show, so my first reaction was "Nooooooo!" Upon further thought however, it could lead to an official DVD release of the original series, which I've been waiting for for years, so maybe it's not so bad after all. Fingers crossed!
I think they look great, and it's so cool that you have custom shoes! As for the cobbler issue, I know I would do the same thing if I were in your situation. There's always the next pair, right? ;)
...if you know your own stocking size
...if your cultural references go too far back for people twice your age
...if you feel a compulsive urge to scream obscenities when you hear about someone ripping out a perfectly fine vintage kitchen or bathroom because it's just so "outdated"
Thank you ladies! I'll definitely have to watch out when I change the bulbs; I appreciate the heads-up on that one!
Clubwitsend, that dress is smashing and looks marvelous on you!
I'll have to check this out, as I actually went to Tiger Lillie a couple of years ago! One of the stylists actually did the hairstyle you see in this avatar. :) I'd still be going if it weren't for the fact that the salon isn't very close to where I live.
Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom's, and Saks Fifth Avenue are department stores that all have Guerlain perfumes, and all of them would probably carry Jicky. If you're going to be in NYC though, I'd say your best bet would be to go Bergdorf Goodman, as they are supposed to have a really fabulous...
I have it, and it's nice, but I prefer my Caron powder compact! I think it was a few dollars less as well, and I probably got more product with the Caron.
MaryMary -- Besame discontinued a lot of their original products, so that may be why you're not finding them on their official site...
For those of you who like powder, I just have to take a moment to gush about Caron. They have the loveliest loose and pressed powders, and for us pale people, they offer very light shades! Caron started making powders in 1939, and the packaging still has a bit of a vintage feel to it. I can...
Totally second this. I guess we'll all just have to post more! On the topic of mid-century decor and design, have y'all seen Retro Renovation? So many wonderful pictures to swoon over, and lots of practical advice as well.
Agree on both counts! It also makes me laugh how they're always labeling stuff as a new arrival when in reality, it's been on the site for a while and they've just given it a new name. That said...I really want the leopard garter belt!
