If that's what your Mr. Handy hat is going to look like...it may be on my short list. Question Art: how does the Joey line compare to Century? I mean, I know it's rabbit as opposed to beaver, but I've seen some REALLY nice rabbit felt hats that could almost be beaver, and then I've seen some...
Ooh, getting rid of hats? I think that's the boldest resolution yet.
For my part, my new years hat resolution is to acquire an Optimo 1000 Silverbelly. -M
Looks like it could be a cavanagh edge as well. Either way, they really need to get him a hat more suited to him - that hat isn't suited to him, and is too battered anyway for a highly-paid Madison Avenue advertiser. -M
Sounds like you've been doing some thinking. First off, I think going custom rather than with Stetson is an excellent idea, if you're comfortable spending the money (personally I am, but there are plenty of people who aren't and that's fine too). First thought is check out this page on Art's...
Just got my featherweight black cherry for Christmas today. Man, it is difficult to photograph! So, just a fore-warning, the photos do not come close to doing it justice!

Nope! Every time I see the new black cherries, I crave to see more. Got any more pics? It'd be great to see it from different angles and/or in different lighting.
Pretty sure Litefelt is the same price. As for why people would take it over standard weight (btw, liteweight felt is beaver), there are any number of reasons: they want something that will breath more for summer months, they want a floppier hat, or they already have several dress weight hats...
I can't imagine anyone giving you grief over the decision, Art. More felt choices can only be a good thing. When you get around to it, it would be nice to have a list of all the colors available for each felt (perhaps with swatches; I realize this is problematic because monitors differ in their...
I don't want to get into a huge discussion about Adventurebilt (especially since JoshD has already said they're out of his price range), but supposedly the people who've ordered lately have had pretty short wait times - BruceWayne ordered sometime in September and had it by the end of October. -M
Also, I wouldn't worry about the hat being too tall for you - if you've got a long face as you said, that's the best type of face to wear a tall crown. A tall hat will make a long face look smaller by comparison, whereas a shorter hat will just make it look enormous. Case in point, check out...
I don't think it's in Jackson, but isn't Adventurebilt based in Mississippi? Granted, the prices are high, but people who make new orders have been getting theirs quite expediently.
Quite likely correct, although we do have vintage photographs (often of people who don't realize they're being photographed), and that can serve as something of a corrective. I haven't noticed much of a difference in the way movies portray people wear hats and how the photographs depict it...
I dunno, I tend not to give modern production hats much attention anymore, since the quality (with a few exceptions) just isn't there. Plus, why would one spend $150-$200 on a low quality production hat when for that money, one could either buy vintage on ebay or check out some of the less...
