While 'awesome' is not a word I regularly use in my vocabulary, I am definitely in awe of your scrimshaw work, Darrel - so I guess I'll have to chime in with awesome! as well.
This is Rollie Free riding a Vincent on his 1948 world speed record run on the Bonneville flats.
Not only did he have a unique riding style that involved removing the seat and lying prone on the rear fender to reduce wind resistance, but in previous runs he found that the wind was...
Found these at the thrift store a couple of days ago. Nothing special or vintage, but a nice, rich dark brown color that I don't have anything else like. Full leather lining and very little wear. They're made in Italy, but I don't recognize the brand - Red Shoe.
Odd sole, but good for...
Since we don't watch TV - just movies on DVD - we've been watching a few TV series lately, including Fringe. Just a couple of nights ago we watched the Brown Betty episode. I thought it was very well done, and I particularly liked the mix of eras. I've never seen that done before.

My approach to placing the buttons is pretty simple - I sew the two back buttons first, then attach suspenders, put on the trous, pull the braces over my shoulders and look in a mirror while postioning and marking the location of the front buttons. Every pair of trous seems a bit different in...
I agree with you in principle, but the electrics I've converted are all European clocks with 250V 50 cycle motors that can't be practically adapted to 120V 60 cycle current. As for the wind-up movements, I keep them if all they need is a good cleaning and oiling, which I can do myself. Repairs...
