    Britishisms sneaking into American vernacular

I used to watch old Doris Day films and lots of Disney. Not much television. I remember trying so hard to sound like Mary Poppins! I used to want to go to an elocutionist as my accent is atrocious (Yorkshire plus private school) but I am pretty much settled with it.

MAC to Launch Marilyn Monroe Collection in Autumn 2012

My lipsticks arrived!! I love them both - so glad I took the risk of ordering without seeing the colours in person. I will just have to work up the courage to wear them as they are a little bolder than I usually wear! I do love the scent of the MAC lipsticks.

    Finishing / Charm School.

I tried to do a search on this but couldn't find anything! I would have loved to have attended finishing school ..... in the 1950s! Did anyone ever attend one? I was wondering what would have been taught. I thought that maybe deportment and elocution and perhaps something about...

    Britishisms sneaking into American vernacular

I find that classic dramas subtly influence how I speak as do old films. Odd really! Yorkshire with a slight RP edge - strange combination. I tend to pick up phrases and words from books too .... and then use them without thinking. Termagant and foxed are recent ones that I remember being asked...

MAC to Launch Marilyn Monroe Collection in Autumn 2012

I gave in and ordered two lipsticks on line .... hope I like them! I got all flustered as things were selling out while I was looking at them!

Love that dress! Love the shoes too! I don't know what you call them but I remember seeing them on the girls in The Waltons. Such a cute couple!

Is the powder room dying on it's feet.

I haven't noticed that but there was a post in a recent thread that made me think "ouch" but I figured I was just being overly sensitive. When I have started a thread that is a repeat someone has generally given me a handy link to the existing thread. Doubt I would have found them myself - I...

Is the powder room dying on it's feet.

I'm the same! I can never find anything using the search function. I wanted to ask how many vintage items the ladies here had in their wardrobe and what was the most useful and most loved but I am sure it must have been asked before - I just can't find it!
