I tried that too, but I have one hat that really resisted curving. It would hold the curve for a little while, but then revert back to its original shape. A little steam worked perfectly. A very little, actually, as I was nervous about getting the cardboard too wet.
There are exceptions. I have won some auctions that have, for some reason or other, gone under the radar and I was the only bidder. If I notice no activity on an item that I am not in desparate need of I will often place a low starting bid, and if I win I win, if not, meh.
This arrived today and is indeed a Knox Twenty. The "tiny divits" were the evidence of considerable moth activity. One hole at least goes clean through to the liner. Despite that, it is a lovely hat and I would wear it but for the fact that it is a 7 1/8!

Both excellent smokes. The Series A are nice medium bodied smoke and very affordable. CI often has specials on these and you can usually snag fivers or bundles on CBid for next to nothing. The Miami's are my favorite. The are a Don Pepin blend, and a nicely complex smoke. A little pricier...
