Here's a project I was working on for a while. It's a floor lamp made from a Nepalese M1878 Francotte Pattern Martini.
I'm generally not in favor of drilling holes in a perfectly good rifle. But fortunately, I started with a perfectly bad rifle.
It was/is a Nepalese Francotte parts rifle...
Especially 13-year-old eyes not looking through a set of bifocals...
Absolutely. In the Air Gun League we stress all of the above. She is also one of our tournament shooters, so I expected her to do well despite never having fired a 140-year-old black powder cartridge rifle before.
A year and a half ago I posted about a Snider-Enfield I got through IMA: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?19598-Show-us-your-Guns!&p=1521871&viewfull=1#post1521871
I've had the pleasure of shooting it a number of times times since then, but nothing gave me greater pleasure than...
Thank you everyone for your kind words and thoughts. It was especially hard losing her because I still wasn't over losing another of my beloved Springers less than eight months prior. Thankfully I still have my big buddy "Hunter", who did his best to impersonate Shawnee's "Happy Dance" when I...
Sadly, my beloved English Springer Spaniel "Shawnee" passed suddenly on Sunday evening. Without having a necropsy performed I'll never know the cause, but my vet seems to think it was either a blood clot or stroke. She was almost 13 1/2 years old, and was my "Christmas Girl", having been born...
Soren, you sound much like me. I became enamoured with the 4th FG in the early 1980s while reading Jeff Ethell and Gary Fry's book, "Escort to Berlin". Following that was "1000 Destroyed", "Tumult in the Clouds", and anything I could find about the 4th FG. I also liked Len Deighton's "Goodbye...
Here are the photos I shot at the National Warplane Museum Airshow in Geneseo, NY in either 1989 or 1990.
In the first photo, from left is Lt. Marvin Arthur 334 Sqn. (pilot of P-51D QP-U "Blondie"), Lt. Joe Higgins 336 Sqn. (pilot of P-51B VF-D "Meiner Kleiner"), Lt. Don Patchen 336 Sqn...
I just found out this evening that Lt Col James Goodson passed on May 1. He was 93. He was laid to rest in Bourne National Cemetery on May 9.

I just picked up a Ranger 101.21 (same as the Springfield 87M) at a gun show today. I've been trying to do a little research on this rifle, called "the .22 cal. M1 Trainer", but have found little. What I have found is the Springfield 87M was presented to the Army in 1940 as a trainer for the M1...
Yes, Jacob Snider was a jeweler (and mechanical engineer) from New York.
In addition to my Sniders and Trapdoor, I also have a French Tabatiere that was converted into a "Zulu" shotgun (marked "Hunter") in Belgium by Fabrique D'Armes Reunies.
Nice looking Trapdoor!
I'm just sitting here looking at mine next to one of my Snider Enfields (http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?19598-Show-us-your-Guns!&p=1747197&viewfull=1#post1747197 ), and it's interesting to see the ways the US and Britain adapted muzzle loading rifles to...
I just picked up this Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor at an auction yesterday. The price was reasonable enough at $350, but I do have to replace the barrel as it is shot out and badly pitted. Fortunately I located a barrel in very nice condition and ordered it. I should have the new barrel...
That is an "S", denoting Savage as the manufacturer. That grey butt plate is the original alloy plate. Many were changed to brass during the post war rebuild program.
That's a nice Enfield. Like mine, I see that yours is a Savage-built example but it looks like yours went through the post-war rebuild program. Tell-tale signs are the Beech stock and the flip sight. Does yours have the brass butt plate or does it retain the original alloy butt plate? Also...
Several years ago I posted about Cocoa, the Springer Spaniel I rescued during the summer of 2007 when he was eight years old. http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?13228-Loungers-Pets&p=466955&viewfull=1#post466955
Sadly, Cocoa passed away on September 30 last year, and both Shawnee (my...
Here's another recent addition. It's a Nepalese Snider Enfield I picked up at IMA this past September. However, it isn't a run of the mill Nepalese Snider. This is about six inches shorter than the standard P1864 Snider, yet about six inches longer than the two-band short rifle. Since I have...
It's been a while since I've posted anything here, but here is my latest. It's a Lebel Model 1886 M93 C35 carbine I picked up at an auction over the weekend.
