I second the Wranglers. In USA at least, they are readily available for under thirty dollars. There are also the BlueBell Wrangler 11mw and 11mwz repros available in europe. Levi's Vintage Classic line, usually called LVC, make repros of their 1947, 1955, 1933, and maybe a few other models...
Ebay means you always overpay...
There is an economic theory called the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winner's_curse">winner's curse</a>. Basically this idea means that the winner of an auction is that person who is most optimistic about the value of the item being sold and thus...
It looks like the one you got is a shorter length than the aero. That Aero is the 2/3 or 3/4 length or whatever they call it. The one you got is closer in length to an A-2 or a motorcycle jacket.

Sounds like the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verfremdungseffekt">verfremdungseffekt</a>. Sorry it sucked, but isn't there something to be said for attempting to keep a musical fresh and relevant, even though in this case the attempt fails completely? I...
The Saint James Co. is a French company that has been makinng these shirts and sweaters since the 19th century. They have a store in NYC and soon--sometime this month--they are supposed to have sales on their web page: http://www.saintjames-usa.com/
Just a note...
In addition to the difference in fabric and cut, older t-shirts actually had a different shape. Take a look at these two completed auctions:

The olive drab army uundershirts that they have been making for 40 years or so fit this description, and are available at most surplus stores. Make sure you get the all cotton ones, though.
Speaking of ready availability, what is wrong with the Hanes or Fruit of the Loom plain white...
I have jackets in both and for my money I think the goat is a little bit better. All else being equal, I prefer the drape and grain of the goat to the stiffness of horsehide. The one thing that I prefer about horse is the way the grain comes out with wear. You really don't get that from goat.
I really love the drizzler. I have an old khaki drizzler that is on the verge of falling apart, and I have been agonizing about getting a new one. Lucky for me, today I found a navy blue one in like new condition for 4 dollars at the value village.
my experience with the brooks brothers shirts is that they fit like a garbage bag. you really have to get them altered because they are so blousy. this is true even with their slimfit.
What you paid sounds about right to me. After shipping mine were $148. In Europe I think the price is actually higher. This page has them for 159 Euro: http://www.vintagedenim.de/index.html?info.htm
I am actually wearing a pair of those right now. I bought mine through Ebay from a seller in France. As far as I know they are only marketed to europe and japan. Here is the webpage where you can read about them: http://www.wrangler-bluebell.com/
