If the rough bits bother you that much, I would be inclined to bite the bullet and dye the entire jacket. I've seen some that have turned out brilliantly. Another option, maybe take it to a pro to get it dyed or the problem areas blended properly, get the hardware fixed and maybe some new knits...
The 59er is a great looking jacket. It has a somewhat similar vibe to some of the LL gear. I also really like the zip sleeve highwayman. They are great jackets. I prefer them both to the standard Highwayman.
I love those old catalogues. I don't own a single black jacket. I ride a black motorcycle, but still no tough black jacket. I'm flirting with the idea, but I've always preferred brown.
30-50 ferret hides sounds about right? From memory when I asked a maker a few years ago, for a 48-50 possibly 2 hides? They might reject several hides with scars or inconsistent thickness etc in order to find the right quality, but 30-50 hides seems crazy?
So it turns out Macklemore doesn't really buy his kit at a thrift shop...he goes there and pays zillions to look like a peanut. I don't know what to believe in anymore....
Good score! The length looks ok? It's up to you, your the dude wearing it. Some folks here wear them shorter than others, but that looks good to me. The sleeves and shoulders look good too. For $400...laughing all the way to the pub. It will soften up plenty, just wear the hell out of it...
I never really liked it initially. Since then, I have seen Worfs awesome jacket and a couple of others. It's really grown on me now, and I really do like it.
Yep ACT right now. Spent the last couple of winters way up north in Mackay, and hopefully heading to Sydney soonish. Always trying to get further up! Shearling is too much of a gamble for me, as I could end up living anywhere!
