    White Sea Captais hat...

I think the Kriegsmarine U-boat officers hat is about the closest thing that I have found thus far. While they have the buckle & strap across the front they unfortunately carry the insignia sewn onto the front and the scrambled eggs across the bill. The one that MrBern found would be perfect...

    The "Indy" Comebacks...

And if you incounter the small minded indevitual that is just compelled to mock you (wether about a fedora or anything else) just to make him or herself look good in front of their friends, well then, you look them square in the eyes and say, "I'm sorry, but I refuse to get into a battle of wits...

    Generations

That's great Johnnysan! Glad to hear that the generations can come together and bond like that. Fathers & Sons have a way of doing that sometimes. I hope that you both wear yours in good health. Have a great New Year. Cheers! Dan

    White Sea Captais hat...

Where can one find one of these caps like the one Thomas Kretschmann wore in King Kong as the Captain of the Venture? And not the cheap made ones with the anchor & life rong emblazoned on the front but a good quality cap. Sorry I couldn't find any images to copy here. The best I could find is...

    Make your own hat box?

You may be able to find a plain hat box at Michael's art supplies. Varipac also makes hat boxes, and I would wager that most arts & crafts shops in your area carry hat boxes in the round variety. Some may be ladylike with fabric attached but that can be easily removed if your delicate...

How do I create a teardrop or similar shape?

Bob's right. It should be soft enough to push it into any shape you desire. The steam would only be used to set the shape you place. What a nice gift you got. Enjoy your new lid. Cheers! Dan

Quick!!! Pink shirt and grey fedora, how to coordinate both!

There was a great shot of Bruce McGill in Cinderella Man where he was wearing a dark grey pinstripe suit with a light pink shirt. And if memory serves me correctly he was festooned with a dark navy polka dot tie. I could be mistaken though. But grey & pink go well together. Cheers! Dan

    My new old Stetson

Joseph: Nice looking Open Road. I think that the memory wrinlkes will fade with time. They have on hats that I have reshaped in the past. Looks great the way you have it now. Very Jeff Bridges in Seabiscuit. Cheers! Dan

How do I create a teardrop or similar shape?

BB: Yes, that method works quite well too. I've used that for a couple of cowboy hats that I had to reshape. Those things were quite stubborn until soaked. Cheers! Dan

NYC - only one fedora sighting in midtown yesterday :-(

I find my fedoras don't get a second sideways glance from anyone. I can pull them off with jeans and a red plaid flannell shirt for the woodsy look. The only comments I get are positive ones. Even with jeans and a white t-shirt it can be pulled off in the right conditions. But I usually wear...

How do I create a teardrop or similar shape?

Andykev: Thank you very much! Actually the straw was quite easy to shape. It's fairly soft & coated with a varnish to hold it's shape. Once a little steam hits it the varnish softens and then will stiffen once it cools. Some of the stiffer felt hats like the Fed take a little more finessing but...

How do I create a teardrop or similar shape?

Raindog: It's Peters Bros. Indy Straw. It was way too tall with the Indy center dent. Made it look like an Abe Lincoln stove pipe on me so I reshaped it into what you see. At the botom of this page you see the Indy Straw. http://www.petersbros.com/INDY_CUSTOM/Default.htm Now the hat is pretty...

How do I create a teardrop or similar shape?

Naphtali: I did this with a Peters Bros. Straw and it seemed to work quite well, I imagine that this method will work on fur felt as well. Now, I know some folks here will cringe and thrash about speaking in toungues at this but I use steam. Not too much mind you. Just enough to warm up and...
