The nicest comment I ever heard

In our travels at Christmas time I got several compliments on my lids. They either asked where I was from because I looked very refined or where I got the hat from, rith down to the basic "great hat". Felt pretty darn good. Cheers! Dan

What was the last TV show you watched?

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Much better than the original series out several years back and much closer to the manga it came from. Cheers! Dan

    Water for Elephants (2011)

Caught this one on Naked Trailers on Reelz Channel. Thought it might be interesting. The flashback story has a nice vintage feel to it. http://waterforelephantsfilm.com/ Trailer: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox/waterforelephants/#videos-automatic Cheers! Dan

    Detroit in ruins

Such a large building seems like it could have plenty of viable office space for a number of companies. Even if it never sees train service to it again, at the very least they could open a locomotive history museum on the bottom floor and them commercial office space the rest of the way up. And...

This is what I like to see. Gives one a sense of hope and relieves that heartsick feeling. http://realestate.msn.com/slideshow.aspx?cp-documentid=26555694&GT1=35009 Click the little red arrow to the right of the picture to start the before and after slide show. Your Favorite Movie Themes/Music

There are a load of great composers out there today and ones from the past. I can't really pinpoint one particular theme music from a particular film. I think the compositions that I enjoy the most and remember in my thoughts long after the film is over are the ones that can extract exact...

    Detroit in ruins

That Chernobyl village is just a radioactive time capsule of 1986. Crazy and sad all at once. Yes, houses can be restored from the foundation up even if the wood structure needs replacing. They've done it to several houses in my town that are over 100 years old. I think those restores were...

    Detroit in ruins

Yeah, you have the "old shoe mentality" here in California too. New & big is the watch word, and they want that new and big at foreclosure prices. I would love to see an old Ohio house like that brought back to its regal standing again. Heck, there are old houses here that I would love to see...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Neo, I'm in agreement here, the shorn face looks much better. Sophisticated is the proper word there. And the hat looks great too. Mr. Paladin, again, a fantastic looking hat you bring to the table. Well done! Jimmy, solid looking lid. Looks completely natural there. Cheers! Dan

Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

I've been wearing my Pops 1949 Eternamatic since he passed recently. He stopped wearing it when he retired and about a year back I gave it a cursory cleaning and got it running. It keeps good time too. When I get a little coin in my pocket I'll get it a proper cleaning & timing by a reputable...

    Detroit in ruins

It is a case of morons if putting cash in their pockets doesn't even interest them. Heck, I'd be happy if folks wanted to haul away stuff I didn't care about. Means I don't have to deal with it or put money out to dispose of it. Of course that house looks solid enough to retrofit and restore...

    Detroit in ruins

That's exactly it. The salvage of anything of worth within the buildings. Like I said before, the buildings were most likely closed down for safety reasons or lack of attendance within them. But once it is closed down, call the pickers and salvagers. There are plenty of companies like that...

    Stanley Aladdin Thermos

I'm glad I still have my two from 20 years ago. I'll have to keep a close eye on them now. Cheers! Dan

    Detroit in ruins

Afer some thought on this I suppose there is some modicum or reason to abandon some of these places. Public safety being one of them. In the case of the old theaters the fire suppression system and the electrical, combined with age probably made the place a public safety hazard. I'd hate to see...
