    Peacoat from "Major Coat Company"?

Sorry about that, my mistake. I forgot 1966 has no "66" on the tag, but 1967 does have "67" on the tag.

    Peacoat from "Major Coat Company"?

That coat does look like a '67. Looks OK, but I just checked ebays present, and completed listings (coats that were sold, and coats that did not sell) for size 42 coats. There are a few more size 42 Kersey coats then I thought there would be. You could probably wait until there is an absolute...

    Peacoat from "Major Coat Company"?

I have bought approx. 15 pea coats on ebay. One of them was definitely not in the condition that was described. I should have sent it back but due to that being another small project, I kept it and had it fixed up here and there. I think the price of the coat was $40.00. Two others that I bought...

    Peacoat from "Major Coat Company"?

The vintage Kersey coats are the way to go. I have a few of them and prefer them much more then the more modern day black Melton coats. It sounds like you would need a size 44 if you want to wear them with a sweater underneath. Only one problem though - size 44 in a Kersey coat will take a while...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

A couple of years ago I was very lucky to find an almost new WWII coat. It's a size 46 which makes it even more rare. All of the buttons on this coat are in the same direction, and they are sewn in a "Z". All buttons have the bottom of the anchor facing the right side. They are also sewn with...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

The reason for no button hole on the top left side of your '67 coat is that they discontinued the feature of being able to button the coat on the left side. From '66 and on, you could only button on the right side and not from both sides. After '65 you could only button the coats on the right...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

I have immersed myself in these coats for the past few years so I have picked up a few things along the way.

Dream coat: WW1 era U.S. Navy wool coat

Maybe that coat is from the Naval Academy? There is a set of those star/anchor buttons on ebay right now. They do pop up every once in a while on ebay, but not that often. I'm a former musician, but have never heard of a peddle steel in a rock band. Maybe it's a west coast thing? A couple of...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

WWII Pea Coats Hey Guys, I could be wrong, but I think WWII coats have only one row of stitching about 3" above the row of stitching that is at the cuff. The two WWII coats that I have had were like this. Definitely sounds like WWII coat though. I think the two rows of stitching above the...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

I know. The winters in Vt. are butt kickin'. Have a friend who went to school there. I was surprised at the snowfall and temperatures he would tell me. Where I live (60 miles north of NYC), you can get away with a sweater under the peas in the coldest times.

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

Up here in New York it should be a few weeks when I can start wearing those pea coats of mine. I can hardly wait. What a weird thing to look forward to. I have to first get them all out of their clothes bags first.

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

Coast Guard Pea Coats I bought a Coast Guard coat off of ebay a few years ago. It was a WWII 10 button coat. It did not have the little emblem on the sleeve though. The inside label did say "US Coast Guard". The coat turned out to be one size too small for me (size 44 instead of 46). The...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

A couple of years ago I bought a Sterlingwear issue coat. It was a size 46L(Long). I think it was from the early '90s. I noticed that the sleeves were tighter (smaller diameter) then other size 46 pea coats that I had. It felt a little weird when driving with sleightly tighter sleeves.

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

WWI Pea Coats I'm sure a WWI pea coat is a real find. They are probably made like battleships but to tell you the truth I think my favorite is still a post war late '40s -'50s. I'm not too crazy about the two sets of pockets.

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

My shirt size is 17-17-1/2" with a sleeve length of 36. As I said before the size 46(R) just makes it for sleeve length and body length on me . I'm 6'-2 1/2" and 190. My best guess is if you are 6' 1" and weigh 160, a size 42 should be it. I think a 40 might be a tinch too tight. If you live in...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

I lost 45-50 lbs. a few years ago. Actually one of the reasons was so that the pea coats would fit me just fine. If you're 6' to 6'-2" a regular length coat would probably fit long enough for body length.

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

Doctor Damage, I'm not sure when they started to make Long sizes in Kerseys. So far in the past 3 or 4 years that I rediscovered the Kersey coats, I've found that the earliest year has been 1969 as I have 2 46L(longs) both made in 1969. If they did make Longs before 1969, I have never seen any...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

I fell into the trap of buying 9 vintage peacoats as my size 46 or 46Long are few and far between. I didn't think I would get such a pea coat bug, but I did. If you have a common size (36-40) I'd be surprised if you settle for one coat - the vintage Kerseys are habit forming.

Pea Coat Addiction I started out wanting two coats. I now have a small closet full.
