Gentlemen, I have in my possession a modern tawny whippet size 7 1/2 which has never been worn and original box included. When I ordered it a few years ago it was too large, but I never got around to returning it. I am now moving and need to get rid of it. I'm asking $100 shipped CONUS. I...
And an increase in style as well, it would seem.
I myself have been away for an internship and look forward to returning to campus this fall. Perhaps a hat club is in order? Heck, there's a club for everything else.
There are, besides myself, at least two other people who wear fur felt fedoras on Iowa State's campus. One is a grad student and is always impeccably dressed in suit and hat. I'm not really worried about being considered eccentric for wearing hats, as my goal is to be a professor and eccentric...
I've got an Akubra Capricorn that I can endorse. It's also a poly-straw, which was fine with me because I didn't want to worry about ruining a hat in rain. I got it for around $60 I believe.
In the end, I decided to keep the VS as a graduation gift to myself in two years. Just put in an order at Bencraft for a Stetson Whippet in tawny. I'll be eagerly awaiting its arrival. Thanks for the thought provoking responses gentlemen!
The big obstacle with a custom is that I actually have to know what I want... That and justify it to myself. I realize it's only the cost of two manufactured hats and probably worth three, but being a poor college student with loans coming out the wazoo I'm reluctant to spend it in one place.
While I would LOVE a Work of Art, that's something special I'm reserving for when I graduate. A gift to me. Then again, you make a convincing argument... Oh! The dilemma! Anyone know what the wait is right now?
You see, I had built a computer that summer and was still paying it off, so only one hat could be afforded at the time. But the Fed was so perfect it was the only hat I needed. Technically, I did buy another hat. An Akubra Capricorn at the end of the spring. I'm a man who loves his hobbies...
We're fast approaching the one year mark from my first hat purchase. While I dearly love my Moonstone Fed IV, I find myself in need of a brown hat. I'm interested in something close to the Fed in terms of brim size, maybe a slight bit more taper in the crown. The wider the ribbon the better...
Got to admit, that Arcadia is really sharp, almost making me second guess my decision on the Capricorn. Got an email telling me that the Capricorn shipped today. Start the ten day count down!
Ha, yeah... I'm already thinking about a Stylemaster in fawn for this fall. I don't mean to be going all Akubra but I just like the options available and the price. I should probably try to start looking for some vintage hats.
Well, just bit the bullet and ordered a Capricorn in fawn from Everything Australian. Just around $60 shipped so I'm happy there. I would have liked to go through Hats Direct, as they were fantastic when I got my fed, but I couldn't justify a $30/50% price difference.
I will be eagerly...
While I go to a school that is known for Agriculture, I don't spend much time near animals or in the field. Most of my time is spent hunched over an electrical circuit trying to find out why it's not doing what I'm telling it to!
I like the look of that Pinzano Truman Panama. What are the pros/cons of Panama vs Milan or vice versa? I do like the idea that I could get caught in the rain with the Capricorn and not have to worry.
For straw hats do you guys prefer leather or cloth sweatbands?
Alas, today it was warm enough that I had to leave my beloved Fed IV at home. I've worn it everyday since I got it in October! Not one to simply give up, I've decided that I need a good summer hat. I've been looking around, but I don't know/understand the differences between a Panama or a...
JB, I don't know the details of your situation, but have you considered moving out? I don't mean this as a suggestion for how to deal with the treatment from your family, but instead as a natural progression for a person at your age. I moved out at the age of 19, and while I had nothing to...
J B, I must say I am most surprised by the responses you've elicited from your family and on your college campus. I've worn my Moonstone Fed IV everyday since I got it. I've only gotten positive comments from others, and haven't even noticed an occasional stare while walking around campus, and...
