Thanks for the quick responses. Conclusion: hat was made in the 70s with rabbit fur. I was worried because it did not refer to any x's that it might not have been fur at all, but some type of synthetic.
I have a made in Canada "The Imperial Stetson" with a stamp "Peller and Mure, Buffalo NY". I was hoping to determine the year and what it is made of. It has longer hairs than felt, very soft, almost velour in look and feel. I'm wondering whether it is even fur.
I'm also now waiting on my 6x open road. My akubra hasn't been in a drenching rain yet, but its gotten good and wet with no leaks and kept its shape and color so far.

Thank you for the response. It's sad that the advertised 6x doesn't mean anything. I was suspicious when the ad didn't mention beaver anywhere, but 6x fur maybe meaning 6% fur of some type, what is the other 94%, wool? other?
