Hey Mark, did you sew that sweatband in by hand? How is that done? Can you recommend any books, video, websites, etc. for folks who would want to learn in depth about hatmaking? I'd like to replace a sweatband in one of my hats but thought the sewing part looked tricky. Any qualities one...
Very nice job, Davidson. This will be very helpful to many here at the Lounge. Thank you very much for taking the time to write this up. One question ... you haven't had any problem with crown taper after everything is dry? Or is there a way you are avoiding that? I was wondering if I...
My First name is Wyatt. Folks often ended up calling me "Earp" after the famous Tombstone Marshall. For a long time my name was very rare. Now it seems like there are more and more 'Wyatt's" around. For some reason this bothers me. :)
Fantastic Job Davidson!!
I'm very impressed. I have a couple cowboy hats I'd like to convert. Is there any way you would consider posting a detailed step by step treatise (with photos?) on how you do your conversions, brim shaping, and bashes? I'm sure many would appreciate the info...
I don't know if it's just my area of the state of Michigan or what, but I seem to notice more men wearing Fedora type hats the last few years. Cowboy hats were often seen for some time around here but yesterday when I went to my local bookstore (wearing my hat) I saw two other gentlemen wearing...
Mr. Bowers,
I haven't tried the AM-100. I tried so many and was so disappointed with the quality and performance. I know the AMT-3000 by SSTRAN is a very solid performer and the quality is 100%. However, before giving up on your transmitter I wondered how long your antenna was and if you had...
As you can see in my current avatar, my 20 year old Outback has developed this problem over the years. I'd like to learn how to restore it to it's former glory, but perhaps keep some of the old look ;)
(I need to get some pics of me in my new hats)
If you feel confident about soldering you could get the kit. It's substantially less expensive. I have some important advice if you decide to go that route.
AM transmitters
CharlieH,
After purchasing two, and building a couple more from plans, I was thoroughly discouraged and thought I'd never find one that would meet my needs. A lot of junk out there, Finally I bought a kit to build the AMT3000 from SSTRAN. This is one fine transmitter and...
Very sad news. Feelings for me are similar to when I heard the news of the passing of Jean Shepherd. I was just commenting on that movie in the Radio Forum. When I was a kid a lot of things still looked like they did in that movie. I wore clothes like the ones the kids wore in that movie...
You're right draftek, they're very careful with what's depicted and the wording in the ad, although they slip up at one point:
"You want to fly, of course. Every red-blooded boy does. Now you can."
Fun Stuff!!!
Yeah, absolutely impossible with the technology of the times and especially with the rig as shown in the ad. It must've weighed a ton. It wasn't until 1961 that a successful human powered take off, flight, and landing was achieved, mostly because of the power to weight ratio of the earlier...
From a 1931 Magazine Ad (low res reduced image so it will fit here):
"Note how the Glide-O-Bike's wheel is taking off the ground. She goes gliding along, fellows, and that's not all. You can bank, ground loop, stall (I bet :) ), and side-slip."
