I just received a comment a few minutes ago which some of you won't consider a compliment, I guess, but I like it: The gent said, and I quote, " Has anyone ever told you you look like Ivana Trump?" Now, I am wearing a big picture hat in ivory sinamay with flowers and a ribbon with streamers, a...
I am a little hazy about when exactly Air conditioning was available in the Golden Age. I realize I could easily look this up, but thought it would be more fun to share historical factoids or photos anyone might have. I have heard from folks who lived then that IT WAS HOT ! :) but then some of...
You know, even though I posted this thread, I have yet to decide my favorite :eusa_doh: but this one has got to be a contender! Love it! ( I also loved Von Stroheim in this picture)
Yes, this is how I rather thought it was. I recall, as you mention, the "sunflower seeds/alfalfa sprouts" health food subculture of the '70's, then I guess we began to get "organic" foods in the 80's?...
However aside from physical culture and vegetarianism, I was told that neither food...
I recall a memorable line directed to a female: " As long as there are sidewalks, you'll have a career". I daresay its about as contumelious as one can get excepting imprecation! But I can't recall the film. All I remember is it was a B/W film and the dame saying it was on her way out the...
Yes! :eusa_clap I love "After Hours" too. It may be my very favorite. Also one called the "Hitchhiker", "The Monsters on Maple Street", "The Jungle" ( I may not be quoting exact titles) and the very first one, "Where is Everybody". I know I have other favorites, but not having the collection...
Yep, this was the one I was thinking of. I saw it recently and kept wondering why the producers had not taken the trouble to be period accurate in representing the 20's! It took away from my enjoyment of it, I daresay. :(
Excellent! This would be a great film to see as it also features the marvelous Douglas Fairbanks Jr. .....and directed by Irvin Willat. Willat was married to Miss Dove and was by all accounts a nasty piece of goods who wasn't above slapping her about - so I've read. Howard Hughes wanted to...
I love film noir for its baleful and menacing atmosphere. We like to turn out the lights and light a bunch of candles when we watch them. Anyway, some of our favorites which I can recommend include:
1. Fallen Angel - Linda Darnell, Dana Andrews
2. The Dark Corner - Lucille Ball...
Well, I quit watching television about eight years ago but I can tell you one of my favorite television series ever was "The Twilight Zone". I've got the entire set on DVD now and will watch them all, then let many months pass so that I'll forget their respective denouements - then watch them...
Last night, we watched " Kiss Me Kate" with Ann Miller, Kathryn Grayson and Howard Keel, followed by " Funny Face" starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire. This last I got particularly to see Kay Thompson, the famed voice coach at MGM during the Golden Era. She was magnificent and what a woman...
Between Margaret Sullavan and Katharine Hepburn, who has greater skill at the craft of acting? They maintained a mutual dislike of each other throughout their careers and sometimes vied for the same role. I believed they both also vied for the attentions of Leland Hayward at one time - although...
I've been wondering about what Herbert Shelton called " Natural Hygiene" in the Golden Era: Vegetarianism, fasting etc... I know Gloria Swanson was known for her advocacy of healthy measures like colonics, juicing, raw foods vegetarian foods, etc.. and I have a photo of a vegetarian restaurant...
I usually just take my clothes to the dry cleaner but in between cleaning times, if I get a stain on a white garment I have had great luck with a product called "Gonzo". Little white bottle with red lettering. It removes all stains from blood and chocolate to ink. I find it indispensable.
