What pens are we carrying today?

Today's pen I am using my size 7 Conklin crescent today. This pen has a great history. One of its first endorsers was Mark Twain who called it his expletive deleter. As the story goes, he wrote on a lectern that tilted toward him. Pens would roll off and fall to the floor causing expletives...

    My 1st custom from MajorMoore!

Congrats on the new arrival! Beautiful hat Indycop. Looks like a truly versatile pick. Wear it well. The best part of it is that you have a wife who is really thoughtful. Mine is the same way and I can tell you, that is the greatest gift you can ever get. Best, Sam

    Who are these people?

Good lobbyist Alan, at the risk of bringing down a deluge of lawyer jokes, lobbyists and lawyers have something in common. Everybody hates them until they need them. When you need one, then it becomes they are all rotten except for mine, I just wish he were tougher on the other side. Best, Sam

    Who are these people?

The enemy within Levallois, we have met the enemy and he is us! Unfortunately, most of us lose all sense of reason when a shiny object a/k/a pristine vintage fedora is dangled before us. Best, Sam

    Who are these people?

Carter, I'm with you As a firm believer in capitalism, I am completely in favor of auctions. I am also if favor of classifieds. Finally, I am in favor of people selling where they want to sell. I have purchased a hat being offered through the classifieds here as well as from OFAS. The seller...

    Who are these people?

Slight disagreement Carter, I fully agree with your posting with one exception. I am one of the new big headed fedora afficionados who is probably driving up the prices. My experience in looking at the classifieds is that with respect to the larger sizes, most people are posting lesser quality...

    The Disney Diner

You're right Alan, you are correct. Fortunately, I am a 7 5/8. I was going to have to do some work on the 7 3/4 taupe. Best, Sam

    The Disney Diner

Application for membership I just purchased these two hats from an estate. Both are size 7 3/4 Disneys. The lighter colored one is actually taupe with a dark brown rear bow and is a Disney 15. The darker one is black with a black side bow and is a Disney 20. I will post photos with me under the...

    The Great Beer Thread

Paso Robles I understand that the Zins are quite fine. The area is also known for its Rhone varietals so I am going to be enjoying a few of those too.

    Akubra Stylemaster

Recommendation I really like my Stylemaster and am wearing it today as summer slips into autumn here in Philly. Mine is moonstone which is a medium gray with a hint of green in it. It is fitted with a special order black ribbon.

What pens are we carrying today?

Sailor King of Pen I really enjoy signing Orders with the King of Pen (not King of Pens for some reason). The King Eagle nib is three sets of tines placed on top of each other which gives it a brush-like feel. Each nib is hand made. The body of the pen is covered with red urushi lacquer. As...

    The Great Beer Thread

Paso Robles recommendations Greetings all! I am looking for recommendations for where my wife and I should hang out while in Paso Robles at the beginning of October. Good restaurants, wine and beer bars are top priorities. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sam

Look at my new old watch ...

Suggestion I would get a dark brown leather strap with some texture to it since it would make the too dark dial look a bit lighter. That would, in turn, cause the markings on the face to appear darker because of the contrast. Hope it works out for you because it is a very attractive utilitarian...

What pens are we carrying today?

Uh, oh, my other collecting passion I only collect two things, fountain pens and hats. Today I am carrying a 1928 Parker Big Red Senior filled with Noodler's Black ink. I serve as a judge on a part time basis and I am signing orders today using a Sailor King of Pen fitted with a King Eagle nib...

    Happy Birthday Art Fawcett!

Distinguished members of the Lounge, today is Art Fawcett's birthday! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap I think we should all raise our glasses with one hand and tip our hats with the other to a most talented hatmaker and all around good guy. Happy Birthday Art, and many more! :eusa_clap...

    The Great Beer Thread

What was I thinking? Greetings all! I just found this thread, although I have been hanging around here for several months. I spent a couple of hours reading the entire thread and I am really impressed by the depth of knowledge of the participants. Although I am a trial lawyer by profession, I...

    "In Defense of Hats"

Lawyers and style When reading this article, please make sure you remember that it was written by a lawyer. Do you REALLY want to trust a lawyer about aesthetic issues? Best, Sam (Member of the Pennsylvania Bar)

    Matching fedora colors to outfits

One guy's opinion Welcome to the Lounge! My first fedora was an Akubra Stylemaster in moonstone with a specially fitted black band purchased from one of the members of the lounge. My basic suit colors are gray, black, blue, and brown. I think it works with all but the brown. It also dresses up...

They Say Em' From the Golden Era - Slang & Memorable Phrases

NUTS That word should never be mentioned without a tip of the fedora to General McAuliffe. His response to the Nazis who surrounded his forces in Bastogne on Christmas in 1944 demanding their surrender... "NUTS!" It apparently drove the German translators crazy trying to translate it.
