    Movie hats

As far as vintage style of hats I prefer, the lower crowned, wider brimmed hats of the mid to late 40s are my preference and I spotted one I would LOVE to have copied. It's the hat that Dana Andrews wore in "Laura" with Gene Tierney ( one gorgeous woman :) ) . It is a style of crease that I...

Ask a question, get an answer

That admonition about white after labor day is somewhat dated in todays world though I also live in a warm spot. I have been known to wear a Panama when it is up in the 80s+ here in Texas though usually not with a suit and tie. Especially during the months of Nov. thru Feb. I would not. A light...

    Hat stolen!!!!

I Applaud your restraint. 'Fraid if it had been me back then, he would have had the taste of a fist sandwich with no mayo. Justin, just don't really have words that could describe how you must feel. Been lucky myself these past 40+ years.

    Introduction

Welcome Emilio and Elizabeth. You've started with some good hats, Akubras. You'll enjoy them for many years and you'll enjoy David Morgans. They are nice folks and can help you alot with your Akubra's. Look forward to seeing your pics of your trip :)

    Fedorafest III Stratoliner from Stetson

Would not be the same thing. The idea was this would be a real Strat, made per the original block and finish, not a "homage" as one made by another firm.

    Akubra Sydney: A Review

You can. Just order a custom made one from one of the many custom hatters here in the US, that way you don't have to just get what the factory produces :)

    Akubra Sydney: A Review

I've seen and handled my Aussie friends Squatter and I did not notice any difference in the felt between the two, just difference in crown hght. and brim and his was not lined. Felt wise, I'd have to say they were the same. His Squatter was about 10 years old and really looked better with the...

Any suggestion on a hat that bleeds dye

If it was a recently manufactured hat, ie a new Dobbs, I would not wear it anymore, but pack it up and get it back to the retailer you bought it from and either get another hat or your money back. Sounds like the dye was not set properly at the factory and it will continue to do this when it...

    Akubra Sydney: A Review

I have the Sydney in Charcoal Grey ( it is a true charcoal color, very dark) from DM, as well as a Willow Green Stylemaster coming from John Helmer and have to say that the felt in the Stylemaster is EXACTLY the same as in the Sydney as well as the blocking and flanging and brim size . In fact...

    Akubra Sydney: A Review

First, the "Sydney" is the name DM gives the "Fedora" model that is sold thru OZ retailers. He only offers it in two colors, Regency Fawn ( a nice mid-brown) and Charcoal ( a dark grey/black color). The Fedora as listed by the factory does come in the Fern Green, but from what I have seen on the...

    The Curse of Indiana Jones

Well it has finally happened to me. Took my 86 yo mother out to J.C. Penney's to get something she saw in the paper ad and as usual was wearing one of my Akubras. I had on a Mid-Grey Squatter, my old G-1 Navy flight jacket w/mouton collar, levis, and a pair of sq. toed Luchesse boots. Just the...

    Post New Hats Here!

That's not just nice, it's GORGEOUS !! It looks to be some really smooth, soft felt and I'm in love with that color and the ribbon on it !! If it were mine, I'd put a Cattlemans crease in it, snap that brim down in front and have a late 40s/early 50s OR styled western fedora :)

If you had $250 budget. What hat would you buy the same day and why.

If I had $250.00 (+ 8% sales tax here) free today I'd hop in the car for a 20 minute drive to Peters Bros. and put in my order for a 6x Shady Oaks in the Amon Carter style with a 2/3/4" bound brim and 3/8" ribbon with bow in Silverbelly. You can do the same online . :)
