Very smooth thinking, Scotrace! We decided on a bit more casual of a place, but I may just steal that anyways! In the past, would paying for the tab indicate something more than mere friendship, or can it also be used simply as a gesture of chivalry?
I'd be curious to know the official...
A question for the more socially adept among us...
I'm taking a longtime lady-friend of mine to lunch this week. Not a date, per se, but I still would like to uphold a respectable image by following as much etiquette as would be appropriate. It won't be too fancy of a restaurant; probably...
I knew you did Seabiscuit and a couple others, but I had no idea you did so many others! Especially B.B., Titanic, and Road! I'll need to rewatch these...
Sorry I missed your call today, Art. I was at the house up north checking out a few things. I'll call tomorrow.
I know there's a few threads on movie quotes that are doing well in the movie forum, but I think a thread for general quotations would also be good.
One of my favorites:
"Every civilization must contend with an unconscious force which can block, betray, or countermand almost any conscious...
Finished Frank Herbert's monumental Dune, book 1, last week. I've started Dune Messiah, but I don't like the direction quite as much as book 1. The complexity of Herbert's prose is outstanding. A thoughtful blend of fantasy and ecology.
I love it, too. I really want a 30's 3 pc. with a double breasted waistcoat.
If you want to get technical, suits really are not formal wear. That designation is for black and white tie; suits are for casual occasions.
This thread should go in the suit section, though, and probably merged...
I have a rayon (I think) bowling shirt that once belonged to my late uncle. Sentimentally, it's one of the most valuable articles of clothing I own. The back of the shirt is decorated with felt lettering, advertising the name of the bowling alley club. The felt is very delicate, and even my...
I've been a little busy lately, but sometime this weekend I have some pictures of a great 50's Knox to post. Aureliano did a great refurb on the hat; a new crown block, reflanged, cleaned, and sized up from a 6 7/8 to a 7 1/8. Details to follow soon... :D
Out of this world! I particularly like the simple center dent on it.
Is it an underwelted brim? Or does it just has the decorative stitching?
I have a general question for you guys... Buler, you referred to a #60 block. Are block numbers universal across the trade, and what do the numbers...
I bought a secondhand Optimo a while ago for a family member, and of course I got to inspect it myself before it was gifted. :D It's a sky-blue (forgot the official name), with the fabric tag dating to Oct. '07. I also own two VS's. Aureliano, I'm going to disagree with you here; The latest...
It's the key of the Mayan doomsday prediction...
...I've got nothing. [huh] Doesn't look like Gregg Shorthand, or any shorthand, really. Just a bunch of numbers that were probably production line codes and stuff.
Great hats everyone! Having never owned a roll-up, does the felt become weak along the top of the crown? We all know that handling a hat by the pinch weakens the felt, but what about folding it in half a lot? And wouldn't the sweat and ribbon become terribly wrinkled and deformed over time?

Their Peanut Butter chews are out of this world, for anyone who's interested.
Cheers,
I saw that one and thought, what a great hat, if it weren't for that staining on the top and if the seller knew what the heck he was doing with the sizing.
Still, great price though. Someone got a great deal.
Thanks, guys, I'm pretty excited about it myself. Should make a cool looking everyday summer hat for me.
I would have shot for that Stetson derby, too, but I neglected to look closer at the pictures. I thought that funny-looking white frilling at the front of the curl was a frayed binding...
