I've only been amassing hats for a few months now and am still in learning mode, so while I've picked up a few pretty decent hats in that time, this is the first truly "nice" one I've acquired. It's a Borsalino Feather Weight Extra Extra Superiore from Salvatore Balbi.
When they say "feather...
Hello again. I had posted this hat previously as trade bait, but didn't find a compelling swap. So now I've listed it on ebay. The BIN price is $160, bidding starts at $120. I'd still consider a swap if you have something interesting to offer of comparable value...
Sure, I'd consider that. Please send a couple pics. Is it something along the lines of this one? https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/marine-blue-sueded-felt-size-61-7-5-8-160-shipped.105176/
I have two Stetson Silverbelly Open Roads, and I only need one. So let's swap! The hat on top is a 6X I just bought brand new about a month ago. It's spent some time on my head, but hasn't even left the house yet. The one below it is a 4X Beaver that I picked up pre-owned. I thought it might be...
Appreciate your input, sir! Understanding, again, that dating these things is tricky, when you say "American hats of this era...," what era are you referring to? Are you thinking my wild guess of '60s or '70s is reasonable?
Comrades. I just thought I would stop by to show you this recent ebay pickup, a Resistol 3x Beaver, model unknown, age unknown. Nothing super special, just a solid vintage lid. Pretty sure none of you were the seller, since this guy had no idea how to ship a hat. He basically treated it like a...
I'm still very much a novice at this hat thing, but that didn't stop me from grabbing an open crown Premier Stratoliner on sale and blundering my way through my first full-blown bashing experience. I figured if a non-handyman type like me can bluff my way through plumbing and electrical projects...
Turns out I probably won't be going that cattleman route with the Premier Strat after all. OR in my size magically reappeared on the Outland site at the very low price of 139, so I nabbed one before they vanish again. I'm still getting the Strat too, but I'll do something more typically...
You've actually hit on one of my biggest fears, i.e. that once I learn a little more about the characteristics of "quality" hats, I'll no longer be able to enjoy hats that I'm currently pretty happy with. I've already gone through that with other obsessions, such as vintage brass instruments and...
Totally into getting a custom hat made at some point, but pretty sure none of the fine masters around here will do it for anywhere near the 160 I’m paying for the Premier.
Thanks for your insights, sir! Interestingly, the Hats & Guitars guy says the Premier Strat actually has a higher crown. But yeah, the brim width seems to be the main difference. I think I'll be okay with that...though of course it's hard to say before actually putting the dang thing on my head...
Hi all, I'm relatively new here, just a couple of posts in the "Hi, I'm new here" thread. I guess my question is whether I did something stupid. I think the answer is no, but some validation would be cool. I was sort of coveting an Open Road, and wasn't finding any used ones in the usual places...
