Oh, he was able to compete just fine. Problem was that he was not hatting full time and his day job took precedence. His product was an 80/20 beaver/rabbit blend, all American made, hand styled semi-custom fedora. Over on the Chronicles where I spend most of my time, Camptown hats were and...
Mine sit about an eighth of an inch above my years and perhaps a quarter of an inch above my eyebrows. They slip on comfortably to that level, and are stable. No amount of wind, and believe me, Calgary is as windy or windier than Chicago, can dislodge them. I do not have to jam them down to...
Perhaps we could have a word from an expert, specifically Art, on the differences in vintage v. modern felts. It is an area I find a little confusing and need expert enlightenment on. Many thanks in advance, Art.
I too am completely bald. I have four hats of varying degrees of quality that I wear all the time: An Akubra Banjo Paterson, vintage Stetson Whippet, Camptown Fieldmaster and a VS custom, all with leather sweatbands. I like the feel of all of them on my bald head at any time. No issues. Of...
Why? I would think that a link to a good hat source for Loungers, live auction or otherwise would be a good thing. After all, isn't that what it's all about?
I've owned this Filson's double cape mackinaw for almost 30 years. Mine is actually made in Seattle. I paid $75.00 for it in 1982. Now it goes for $350.00
I just ordered one of these from Woolrich. Unfortunately, no longer made in the US and it cost me more than my mackinaw!
FYI
Here is a question I sent to Stetson:
"Do you have an archive available to the public with respect to vintage Stetson hats, specifically fedoras and the materials they were made of, how these materials were designated on the sweat band, etc. For instance, I own a 1950's Whippet, and...
I unfortunately a while back somehow was in the wrong place at the wrong time and got some compressor oil sprayed on a felt hat. Oops! I got a can of Scout felt hat cleaner (for black hats) and voila, out out damn spot. DO NOT USE the cleaner for light/white hats, as it bleaches, and will...
Just to put my own two cents worth in here. I do not wish to be "Indy", but I do love fedoras. And I especially love fedoras of the 40's era, the era of Indiana Jones. His hat therefore is based on a 40's style fedora, and "customized" from there. So my most recent hat, a VS is a classic...
Or just wear the damn thing. What you wear and how you wear it can in no way affect your spiritual beliefs. Perhaps then your church will get the message.
Is this a fact? I was always under the impression that all vintage Stetson Whippets were in fact beaver, (50's and earlier) marked or not, 'cause beaver was just the way it was done back then.
I enjoy my hats so much, including my recent VS, that I wear them to work every day. Work is a dirty grimy furniture finishing shop (that I own). The hat comes off when I arrive and goes into its safe little cabinet for the day, and back on my head once my hands are clean at the end of the day...
I also wear a 7 1/8. I have ordered an Akubra, Camptown, VS, and vintage Stetson online, and all fit fine. The VS decidedly better because it was sized with a conformer, but all in all, they are all good fits. No worries.
Nice to see that my 28 year old brown cord sports jacket has just come back into style. And Harbilly, I can out do your green Hawaiian shirt and grey cashmere with my cargo shorts/sleeveless shirt/sandals/wide brimmed fedora outfit. Ah, bad fashion sense equals individuality.
